you mentioned the getty museum. anybody who has been to los angeles may be familiar with the sepulveda pass. that was the part of the freeway that was shut down early this morning when fire raged on both sides of the freeway. it was frightening indeed for a lot of our morning crews that came down in the area. now, you mentioned the houses burned. we were in an area where we could see with our own eyes five houses that were damaged by fire. three of them were burned to the ground and that was devastating to say the least. this is in the exclusive bel air estates area. clearly, these are larger properties and also very expensive properties, homes that have been damaged beyond recognition to be sure. so the situation now is just to make sure that whatever is burns doesn't flare up. i haven't seen any air support at this time. but again, the concern is the winds will kick up. often times we'll have sundowner winds. i'm not getting that sensation right now. but fire crews say they just have to stand by in case the winds

if you ever came here to los angeles you see the getty museum across from the area we sbent our day.where we saw four houses destroyed, burned to the ground and to houses clearly heavily damaged by the fire. and in that the weather situation cooperated during the day. they were able to bring in the helicopters that brought water drops and about the the concern was it does seem to be the case that as the sun went down the winds would start picking up. and even though we don't see any glowing fire or embers near where we are now i know they're there in the canyon and tall takes is good win to pick the embers up and blow them around and perhaps make the fire situation worse. mandatory evacuation orders still in place and just to give you a sense for how densely populated this area is as many as 46,000 people could be affected just in this area alone. 11 structures burned and of those, at least 6 were destroyed. so that is the situation. the fire units and fire fighters are keeping an eye obviously on the situation and the the weather and hoping they can survive this reporting live, back
