gianna franco has the latest. >> look at these live pictures from chopper 5. people are just leaving in droves for the evacuations. they have even pulled off to the side of the roadway once they hit higher ground. we had a couple of phone calls this morning. there is major congestion in the area. cars are going slowly through there. it looks like vehicles are pulling over and once that area gets full, people are continuing to move east as far as they can. again, this is due to the tsunami evacuations along the coast there. and this is traffic coming out of half moon bay. if you're traveling highway 1 taking 92 near 35, this is where you're going to see this congestion, a mile of cars, very slow and go. bumper to bumper through this area. so traffic just moving eastward most of those delays are heading towards 280 and 101, of course, we'll continue to keep you updated. i want to let you know about a couple of other things impacting what's going on. highway 1 along pacifica getting very busy as well so give yourself some extra time due to the evacuations out of

here's gianna franco with traffic. >> let's go to 101 in marin county where we are dealing with some flooding issues. southbound 101 near lucky drive, lanes are open. 71 miles per hour so you can move through there. chp is on scene so take it a little slower through that portion. i also just spoke with chp and we got word of a fog advisory for parts of marin, golden gate bridge here as well affected as you can see in our live shot, limited visibility. also richmond/san rafael bridge a fog advisory in effect there. and parts of contra costa county so two hands on the wheel and again take it slow. not bad at the bay bridge outside of slick surfaces. metering lights are off. nice friday across the upper deck into san francisco. no troubles out of san francisco into oakland. the rest of the bay area bridges very quiet. look at the san mateo bridge not a lot going on. no construction. they usually wrap things up early due to the wet weather. both directions clear between 880 and 101. now speaking of 880, if you are planning on heading out the door through oakland, no delays. you can see i

let's go over to gianna franco. these going to be very busy this morning monitoring the morning commute and all the hot spots. good morning, gianna. >> good morning, elizabeth. thank you. you know, in fact, it's already busy this morning. we have three separate accidents around the bay area. the first one westbound 4 right at pacheco looks like chp saying this is on the off-ramp. main lines of the highway not affected. eastbound 4 at the caldecott tunnel accident here, as well. chp just arriving on scene. and also, a wreck northbound 17 that ramp to northbound 280. i'm also hearing of a big rig stuck in the mud on 101 down in the south bay. i'll have that coming up in just a minute. first, let me give you a live look at the bay bridge toll plaza. again, it's still early, traffic slight but once that rain really hits the bay area we are going to see a very busy commute this morning. so give yourself some extra time. you might want to leave a few minutes early. that's a first look at your drive. let's head to sydnie. >

with more on your morning commute let's go to gianna franco who has been inside in a nice warm studio monitoring that. >> i won't brag, liz, it is warm in here and, of course, mass transit a good choice especially if you are traveling on the peninsula this morning. we have reports of an accident northbound 280 right at hickey boulevard. it's an overturned vehicle. we have debris in the roadway. they have the vehicle over to the right shoulder but chp and fire crews are blocking the right lane. looks like it is with injuries. so we are seeing some yellow on our sensors here so slow and go on the northbound side of 280 at hickey boulevard. so use bart probably a good choice. you can catch it at san bruno or colma. northbound 101 at cesar chavez an accident also blocking the road and you can see we are seeing some delays there in both directions. also had reports of flooding on 280 right at 101 so use caution through the area. liz touched on this, wind advisories in effect for some of our bay area bridges, richmond/san rafael bridge is one of them, of course in the marin county area as w

let's get right to gianna franco with a look at traffic.uge backups this morning along the peninsula. >> yeah. and unfortunately, no relief yet. in fact, those three left lanes are still blocked. you're looking at live pictures from chopper 5 of a vehicle and motorcycle tangled up here. this is a fatal accident, one person dead. traffic is backed up, three left lanes blocked north 101 at dore avenue in san mateo. last check, traffic was backed up at least to hillsdale. chp is hoping to have the investigation wrapped up at least by 7:15, 7:30. of course, if this continues, you do not want to take 101 this morning. use 280. if you cut across 92 to 280 to 380 to get back into san francisco you will save up to 20 minutes. so that's the best both to avoid delays on 101. san mateo bridge okay but again, as you head into foster city, you can see as you take 101 you will run into all these delays through there. we have a backup at the bay bridge toll plaza at least to west grand. the metering lights are on. mass transit is always a good choice. law

let's go to gianna franco who has been inside in the studio monitoring the chp reports checking for anyot spots out there. good morning, gianna. >> hey, good morning, liz. it's getting very busy. in fact they turned the metering lights on at the bay bridge so you will see delays building there. all right. we have a couple new accidents to report. northbound 280 at guadalupe parkway, highway 87 the right lane blocked there. you can see our sensors are showing some slow and go conditions through the area. also another wreck not too far from there northbound 280 right at 11 [ indiscernible ] exit blocking the road. as we look live at 280 northbound we are already seeing some busy conditions as you go through downtown san jose. 101 also busy. traffic really backed up in the area stop and go as well, just north of there as you work your way along 101. some better news to report northbound 280 at hickey boulevard they just re-opened lanes on that accident and another perspective the bay bridge toll plaza again the metering lights are on, wind advisory in effect and there is flooding on the lo

. >> let's go to gianna franco who is monitoring the roads including the great highway closure that we just told you about. >> good morning. of course, we are keeping a close eye on all the coastal areas. they have issued a closure as a precaution for the great highway. it is shut down between lincoln and sloat. so avoid that area if you can. they are saying it's going to be closed for most of the morning probably into the midday hours, as well. so then great highway is shut down between lincoln and sloat. also we are keeping a close eye on the pacifica area, highway 1. linda mar boulevard, crespie for folks who are told to evacuate in that area. right now i just spoke to someone in pacifica and seems like things are okay. there are a lot more people on the roads obviously. but no problems to report right now on highway 1 and, of course, we'll continue to to monitor it. slight delays towards san bruno, no accidents through there but just extra busy this morning. to the golden gate bridge, no troubles here. traffic moving along, this area just fine. no delays right now out of marin coun

with more on hour it's impacting your morning commute now, let's go to gianna franco.ave you been busy? >> yeah, it's been much busier due to the slick surfaces and as you said mass transit a good choice. bart, ace, muni and caltrain all on time. commuting into oakland this morning we have a big accident eastbound 24 near highway 13. two right lanes remain shut down while they clear this overturned vehicle. it did land on its wheels. but if you look at our sensors here, we are seeing some yellow on the maps so traffic is getting slow as you approach the scene but past there it's moving along westbound delays due to spectator slowing into the maze, as well. eastshore freeway approach to the bay bridge we are seeing some sluggish conditions through emeryville. at the bay bridge toll plaza, metering lights have just been turned on so traffic stacked up here. mostly in the cash lanes. fastrak lanes are moving okay. but those cash lanes are backed up at least beyond the first overpass at this point. of course, windy conditions, that definitely is going to cause a problem th

for the latest on the commute let's go to gianna franco. is chopper 5 still over the scene?ally they went and landed to get some gas but they will be back up in a few minutes. they were showing us incredible pictures of the area where we are seeing a lot of congestion due to the evacuations. major delays right now still reported along 92 and 35. this is in the eastbound direction. i checked in with our radio partners, kcbs, and a two-mile backup through the area. there are pedestrians walking on the road. people have parked to the side of the road once they got to higher ground. chp is on scene with traffic control and have air support as well trying to keep things smooth in the area. really backed up for folks trying to evacuate out of el granada, once you get over to 92 it's doing a number on 280, as well. some delays when folks get out of the area and heading to 280. we are seeing delays there, as well. so that is causing quite a bit of a backup there. of course, the evacuation area as well in the linda mar area, pacifica, highway 1, we are seeing lots of cars through the
