gil diaz reports. what an architectura feat. >> reporter: especially when the cable is going to be suspended from both ends of the bridge instead of anchored on the ground. this is how the cable will be looped around the bridge. first of all, cable is about a mile long 2.5 feet wide and weighs about five tons. it will be anchored to the east end of the bridge first, goes to the west end and then wraps around the west end of the bridge until it goes back up to the tower and then back into the east end of the bridge. this is different from other suspension bridges because it's anchored on the ends of the bridge, not the ground. this procedure is the world's longest looped suspension cable in any bridge. yeah, it's going to take about two days to complete. they haven't really said what time exactly they are going to start but it will take a couple of days. it will be a distraction. so you might see a loop around the bridge and construction crews on the cat walks, keep your eyes on the road. >> stay safe.

gil diaz is there to give us an update. gil, good morning. >> reporter: hi, good morning, guys.ell, it was definitely an abrupt morning for 45 to 50 residents in san leandro waking up to no water. but seems like the situation has been resolved. east bay municipal utility district shut down the 12-inch pipe a half hour ago. it started around 4:00 this morning when a passerby spotted the burst pipe on leonard next to john muir middle school. police say when they got here, it was bursting like a volcano more than 8 feet into the air. the fire department came to the scene first to shut it off followed by e.b. m.u.d. and like i said it was a 12" pipe. they were able to shut off just sections of the pipe. they didn't have to shut down the entire pipeline. but 45 to 50 people, they should have their water on right now. but east bay m.u.d. will replace the burst pipe. they are going to dig it out, replace it so they will be here for eight hours. leonard drive is going to be should down for most of the day. so avoid this area if you can. and interestingly enough, frank and grace, east ba

gil, good morning. >> reporter: hi, frank. good morning. those residents who foiled that federal lawsuit against the city -- who filed that federal lawsuit against the city are hoping the judge will grant a temporary injunction against the closure of the pool at berkeley high school. it's one of just a few warm pools in the city. they are closing it because the district is making way for new construction and because the pool is old and seismically unsafe. but supporters of the pool went ahead and did a mock funeral last night at the pool. as you can see here they entered the pool with a floating coffin with candles and flowers on top of it. now, it is kept at 92 degrees and that's very ideal for the elderly who use it as well as those with special needs. in fact, there is a special needs aquatic program also known as "snap" that uses the berkeley high school pool twice a week. there's about 45 students participate in. it the new construction is set to begin next summer and users of the pool are afraid they won't have anywhere else to go. >>
