that is the garlic festival in gilroy. a slithering tail in southern california. >> the hunt is on in coast to make a for a six-eight foot python. reporter michelle healy has more on the search for this big snake. >> reporter: all eyes are on the bushes and up in a tree since neighbors along east 19th street in costa mesa began sharing stories this week about a snake on the loose, possibly a 6 to 8 foot-long python. >> my brother had sent my mom a text asking if she knew about the python that had been let loose or got out between santa ana and 19th. i came in and was shocked, oh no, we've got to close the dog door because i don't want it to happen to come inside our house. >> reporter: costa mesa police confirmed that a homeowner called for help after a large snake was spotted very late at night near a backyard in the middle of the 200 lock. lisa lutz lives about a half block away. >> this might explain why lutz's bunny marshmallow was out of sorts, loudly thumping its feet and waking the family a few nights ago. >> or it

and really that's what our to gilroy. about any other community is so strong at that. >> 2 years ago 90 minutes before the festival was set to close for the year. unfortunately, 3 people were killed. their names are stephen romero, kayla salazar and trevor irby 19 year-old man. he actually bypass the security gates the metal detectors went through a side fence and then burst on to the grounds and all of a sudden started firing to unsuspecting people who are having a great time as they always do at the festival. fortunately sheriff's deputies are on the scene. they pounced on him immediately. but unfortunately he caused a lot of heartbreak before he shut down at the facility. he died at the scene there. so they were still remembering that they were hoping to get back on their feet. last year. but unfortunately covid-19 did not allow them to do that. >> this year. covid-19 is still hanging around, which is why it will be a little bit different. >> they won't have the music and all the hoopla that we've seen in previous year

a look at the south bay just a little bit north of gilroy in downtown san jose. there skies are clearing up nicely. we do have some low cloud cover. but sunshine really winning out at this point. little bit of drizzle near the coastline as well as in the north bay overall, the bay area remains quiet compared to the monsoonal moisture. that's resulting and thunderstorms across the southern end of the state. this is going to drift up our direction. any chance of rainfall really starts to diminish as these this month. so moisture passes further north, but that mid-level moisture will be enough that you could see some thunderstorm growth tonight into tomorrow morning that could result in some dry lightning, the southerly flow is actually helping out a lot with our smoke situation here towards the coast as smoke is still set mostly to the north and east from wildfires burning in the sierra and near the oregon border. some of it is beginning to settle into the central valley in likely is going to eventually start to meander its way. our direction now that monsoonal moi
