joining us live from portland, oregon, is nbc's gina kim.ke the numbers increased in the last hour since you and i have both spoke. the han incidents and reports there that some make shift weapons or such have been gathered by law enforcement there. telt us what you're seeing. >> yeah, richard. as tense as the situation, is portland police say that they've only arrested two people. i say only because attention here is very palpable and they seized a handful of handmade what appear to be weapons from this crowd. i don't think that's the extent of all the weapons that are here. but let me tell you what's going on right now. any second now this pro trump rally which is a foundation of all of this is about to take place. this rally was scheduled over a month ago according to organizers. then a week ago that terrible tragedy that we all know about that happened on that portland train took place. and to top it all off, the murder suspect in that case had a attended a pro trump rally organized by the same people. that only galvanized the counter pr

and we want to go to los angeles nbc's gina kim has been talking to folks and collecting different data there. gina, what have you been hearing? >> reporter: well, thomas, we're here in echo park, a very diverse neighborhood, lots of joggers, a lot of kind of avid photographers, women in strollers. we're just about a couple miles as the crow flies from downtown los angeles. lots of people are out. as we've been talking to so many people, almost everybody says, you know, don't talk to me. i didn't really pay too much attention to the hearing. i may not be the expert on it. but then when you draw them out a little bit, let me tell you, every single person that we have spoken to this morning has an opinion and here are just two. marco, rito and brian. >> i didn't vote for him, but it's still it's our president. and we have to support him. that's what it is. that's what it is. this is democracy where we all vote. doesn't matter who you vote for, you have to support him. >> regardless if you're on the right or left and regardless of who is in office, i would imagine that as an american you w

nbc's gina kim is live here in los angeles talking with several people.ou're at echo park, what is the reaction out there? >> reporter: hey, jacob, yeah, echo park, beautiful palace, smack-dab in the mittle -- look at throws lotus flowers behind me. the real treat has been talking to the diversion people who come to this park. we've talked to people from all kinds of backgrounds, nationalities, what is triking do me is that almost everybody saw at least a are a little bit of the comey hearing, and then when you ask them, what did you think about it? they'll start telling you their perspective, but almost immediately it goes into the big picture ideas of what that testimony, what that hearing means for this country, their thoughts about the president, and we talked to two women who told us -- who gave us their two cents. >> he was incredibly, incredibly transparent, truthful, answered all the questions i think in a very positive way, without really smearing, and just kind of telling his story. >> this is something we should all be talking about. if there's

gina kim has more.nt, very concerned about conflict there. >> reporter: that would be the understatement of the day, richard. you said two rallies combined but actually i have to correct you, it's now five rallies and the logistics are very important here. this right here is the pro-trump rally that's scheduled to begin at 2:00 this afternoon. people arrived early and now they are flanked on all sides by all of the different groups, including this one right here is a labor group, that's about 100 strong but the most worry some is here behind me. this is a group calling itself the row city anti-fascists, they are in black garb and promised to return action for action should anybody from the pro-trump side get physical. you have police in riot gear and they are corps doning off the perimeter. police showed up when scuffles started happening and people started yelng at each oech. it is ereme tense. on any givenay thisould be a tense situation but as you said about a week ago we had a double murder here on
