ginger?> matt, the most important part and the part that i think people need to focus in on are the impacts, who gets what, when and where? let's talk about that. we'll show you the graphics here. tropical storm watches and warnings extend all the way from the carolinas up into parts of the cape, even, eventually. that's where we're seeing it there, only through the carolinas. this will extend as we go into the next couple of days. here's how the path goes. it will fluctuate between tropical storm, a heavy one, and a weak category 1. when it hits it has a huge wind field. it's going to stretch from maryland and virginia up to around boston. those affected. but the bulk of it there hits parts of new jersey. new york city going to have 60-mile-per-hour to 90-mile-per-hour winds. that's why you have storm surge concerns. this is important to focus in on. six to nine feet in that magenta color. you could have beach erosion, major waves. 10-foot to 20-foot waves, even. and finally, i have to leave

ginger? >> or is it back to sam if. >> yeah, matt. this was flipped under my doorway. the casino hotel. it says you have to get out by 4:00 p.m. mandatory evacuation. atlantic city has shut down because of weather in 30 years in legalized gambling. see the water behind me, the water already starting to flow up along that fence line there. see this barrier, with the wave it could rise up, there's that iconic boardwalk. they're taking this very seriously, not only here in atlantic city through the barrier islands up the jersey shore. let's get right to the graphics. that storm surge is very important. i want to show you exactly what to expect here. four to ax in that magenta area. in the blue, you got all of that coming from the southeast to the northwest. let me show you the wind forecast, because sam showed you how big and how many people will be involved in this, but look at how high those wind speeds go. pittsburgh, d.c., new york city and boston, in that red zone, and of course, it extends

ginger?> matt, let's get straight to that tropical storm watch and warning. this is what people need to know this morning. this is what the storm is going to do to you. from central florida all the way up through the carolinas. the watches and warnings for 40-mile-per-hour to 50-mile-per-hour gusts. that's today through tomorrow. then, the storm, the path takes it to the mid-atlantic, southern new jersey and delaware, being the heart of it. but the wind field extends beyond that. it could be felt all the way to ohio, parts of western pennsylvania. and the storm surge was mentioned once but needs to be mentioned again. six-foot to nine-foot possible. atlantic city, included. new york city, included. long island, as well. and then, we've got that rainfall because you heard a lot about it. at best, locally, some places could top out at a foot or more after this is all said and done. you see the heart of it, at 6 to 12 inches. and it extends back into the eastern great lakes, where you get anywhe

meteorologist ginger zee is here with the latest. good morning, ginger. >> good morning, bianna. everyone, i need you to know the most important part would be the severe weather. let me show you why. it happened yesterday in parts of new mexico. we'll begin in underwood, texas, where a tornado formed. there were two reported tornadoes in texas yesterday. in total, there were 20 severe weather reports. and many of them came from hail. let me share with you some of the impressive pictures. the hail went anywhere from about -- i'm going to get to that. there we go. one-inch to ping-pong-ball-sized hail. huge hail coming down. smashing windshields. this one from carlsbad, new mexico. and the next pictures we'll be showing you come from a whole different area in new mexico. a lot of these cells had a ton of height to the storms. that usually adds to the hail potential. we're going to see that again today. and it's going to be for areas from texas, dallas included here, up through oklahoma city. even kansas city and parts of far western illinois, southwestern wisconsin. this whole regi
