our ginger zee has been tracking the storms. back from colorado. hey, ginger. >> hey, guys. i want to start with these numbers. they're impressive when you start to see them add up. above a half-foot. harper, texas, over seven inches. almost eight inches in parts of louisiana. let me show you what that looks like when you put it on the ground. houston is where we start. this is not just small cities you saw listed there. houston, cars underwater. the underpasses taken over. waco, texas, also seeing quite a bit of rain. waco, houston and then texarkana. way too much rain. they're going to see that start to subside, especially in texas. if you go into parts of louisiana, around new orleans, mississippi, even parts of alabama and florida today, you're going to see more rain. flash flood watches and warnings in place. how much rain are we talking? give you an idea. that area in red, peaks at two to four inches, locally more. your nation's weather coming up in a couple minutes. and a typhoon to talk about. >>> now, big developments in the war for your smartphone loyalty. apple re

and over to ginger zee, back in colorado. hey, ginger. >> she flew. >> yes. i did not fly united. could see ron going to honolulu. i did want to point out something i didn't get to say. you can see behind me, there's a tree with another tree pushed up against it. you look down and there's trash cans. and this water's nasty. officials telling people to stay out of it. any of the floodwaters. that's a second danger. there's another area of dangerous water. that's south padre, texas. can i show you these pictures. oh, my goodness. they're about to get tropical storm ingrid flying just south into them from mexico. but the surf will kick up. you'll see more of the rain. and some of that is very beneficial rain. let me show you the path of what is now tropical storm, could then become a hurricane before it goes right into mexico. but it will spit out enough as it tracks north, moisture to get two to five inches of rain, which is so needed in south texas, from corpus christi down to brownsville. but also that rough surf. don't get in the water there. you can see major rip current action.

back to ginger zee. hey, ginger. >> hey, there.our headlines this weekend come from the pacific northwest. because we're talking big rain and big wind. two storms come in. cold fronts will bring not only heavy rain but flooding. flood watches and warnings up in a lot of places. throughout the pacific northwest. seattle, portland, both could close in on their wettest september ever. we usually wait until october, november, even december to get this wet. and luckily, the only good thing is there's not a lot of snow up there. we shouldn't see as bad of flooding. we'll watch it, the next 48 hours, we could see four to eight inches in the cascades and just east of the big cities. i don't know that the rain is that big of a problem. it's the wind on top of it. right by the coast and also on parts of the passes. 60 to 80-mile-per-hour gusts. high wind warnings into western montana. it's something on top of the rain that will be a problem. i'm sure by tomorrow we'll have ugly video coming out of that region. like we did out of the rockies.

and more to come, ginger? >> reporter: right, well, this is definitely autumn. we are transitioning pretty quickly to winter in some places. let me show you how much more rain. this is not normal for this area this time of year. but we do have more to come and some areas going to pick up another two to four inches, david. and look at the wind that comes along with it. this is actually more concerning, as far as the danger involved, to me. because just east of the metro, you're talking 40 to even 80-mile-per-hour gusts. some of the passes and ski resorts reporting tonight 95 miles per hour already. >> could be very dangerous on the roadways. the warnings in effect? >> reporter: right. and these go all the way through tuesday. and that's why i really wanted to show them, because the wind watches and advisories really are widespread. you can see about seven states at least with some of those high wind warnings. also, the flood watches in place tonight and the winter storm watch in the cascades. >> all right, i know you and sam tracking it right through "gma" in the

ginger zee is on the ground. ginger, this has been such a punishing storm.cials are involved in the largest air rescue since hurricane katrina. i see that river right there is about to breach. >> yeah, this is not even the river. this already breached. this is the runoff. the river is a quarter mile back. this is the south platte river. the one they're most concerned about today. because it's not done rising. we have seen it feet above its record or historic levels. let me show you, because you have all the runoff, chunks of the road falling apart as we have been here. all of the floodwaters gnawing away at parts of colorado. the rescues really are the part that are so dramatic. yesterday, we saw some of them. we met people evacuating their homes. i want to show you the pictures of those dramatic rescues. students in the mountains, air-lifted out. rescues of the horses. because it's not just the people that are stuck. this is a lot of farmland out here. farms completely ruined. everything that they had. we're hearing a lot of that here in morgan county. this

here is abc's meteorologist ginger zee. >> reporter: no pets left behind. the strategy, as thousands of people were rescued in colorado, their pets were rescued, too. >> mostly dogs as you can see. but some cats in crates and other animals i couldn't tell what they were inside crates. i think at least a bird, i saw a bird cage. >> reporter: today we learn almost 900 pets have been air lifted to safety. all part of a mission to convince their owners to evacuate. we've seen more and more dramatic pet rescues in the years since hurricane katrina, when people died, because they didn't want to leave their pets behind. >> they are members of our family. we are neighbors helping neighbors, that includes the entire family. >> reporter: in colorado we saw heart wrenching images, the horse waiting out the floods all alone. today, word is, socks survived. we also witnessed the real life cowboys saving those who couldn't save themselves. >> i helped the family out that looked like they would have to leave their animals behind. >> reporter: and proof that our pets are o
