. >> ginger: thank you, tom. see you in a few. tonight city leaders want to cut down crime in an area in daytona beach. >> lisa: how they're hoping to pay for it is not going over too well. the proposal calls for businesses in the area to foot the bill for more cops. news 6 reporter loren korn joins us live from daytona beach. police told you that crime is really on the rise in that area right now. >> reporter: yes, definitely on the rise. car break-ins, thefts, among other things. it's not just happening here along sea breeze boulevard but residents tell me it's spilling over into their neighborhoods. sea breeze boulevard, known for the night life but lately it's known for the crime. transients transients, break-ins, burglaries, drug activity on the street. >> reporter: gary libby should know. he lives in the area. >> i had a robber jimmie a window and enter my house with me upstairs. >> reporter: daytona beach police say crime has increased since last year, 40% of it happening on sea breeze boulevard after 10 p.m. there's been a

news 6 anchor ginger gadsden is joining us now. this is pretty dramatic stuff. >> ginger: indeed. this was the scene early this morning. you can see severe weather on the east coast led to rough waters. that's when a fishing boat ran aground with seven people on board. the coast guard got an urgent call so they went to get the boaters to safety. here's another look at the incredible rescue. rescuers were swinging from the helicopter and into the 74-foot vessel but the rescue effort didn't come without problems. one of the coast guard boats sent to help the ship overturned in the water. the five coast guard members on the rescue boat made it back to land safely. one coast guard official described what the fishermen experienced as they encountered trouble. >> they were getting some water washing over the railing and going into the vessel. they were using pumps to pump it back over and just over time they just floated and this is grounded. >> ginger: here's the good news. tonight everyone involved in this is just happy they're all safe. the coast guard said this could have been so mu
