ginger zee standing by on that. but first, abc's gio benitez in south florida. >> reporter: tonight in florida, time is running out. the southeast preparing for a direct hit from hurricane matthew. >> when you look at this storm as it goes along the east coast, we're going to have to prepare every county. so, it could be the biggest evacuation ever. >> reporter: matthew, potentially the worst storm to hit the sunshine state in over a decade. now strengthening over open water, winds over 120 miles an hour. wreaking havoc across the making a second landfall overnight in eastern cuba, leveling the town of baracoa. officials in haiti still trying to assess the damage. five deaths reported so far. but the main bridge that connects to the hard-hit south is washed out. officials now postponing sunday's presidential election indefinitely. our lindsey davis is on the ground. >> people are worried about the potential for landslides and even possibly cholera. it's difficult to know the full island, because in some of the areas

ginger. >> robin, it is just on top of haiti. so we shuld should see official landfall within the next hour or so. and now this will actually be the strongest hurricane that haiti has had since 1963 when it makes landfall. as far as landfalling hurricanes go. but here's what i wanted to do. i wanted to focus on where the compactness, where the hurricane winds are in haiti. so the hurricane force where you could get 74 to 145-mile-per-hour winds within that red cone. now, look at port-au-prince. still 120 miles away, you say, oh, good, that sounds like great side of it is where most of that convection is falling. meaning most of the rain. deadly rain, flash flooding, mudslides in places that already had 22 inches, the dominican republic could get another 20. eastern cuba, 20 plus inches. that type of rainfall where you have these topography areas. two inches will give you devastating effects. eastern cuba is included there. it goes eastern cuba and the eye east of it tuesday night so tonight and moves into the bahamas by wednesday
