and gio benitez is here with the latest.ood morning, gio. >> reporter: hey, michael, good morning. yeah, that free fall jump going terribly wrong. now, the parachutists fell 14,000 feet in the air before opening those chutes during a training exercise at a south florida air force base. emergency crews rushed there just after 4:00 a.m. you can see that scene there taking them to trauma centers. this kind of jump, a halo jump, it's called a high-altitude, low open skydive. that's when you open your parachute at a low altitude after a free fall. it's incredibly dangerous, back in 2015 investigators looked into this military parachute training exercise. you can see right there, a scene from "mission: impossible," because it's been used successfully in movies. and they stopped these free-fall jumps for three months after an alarming rise in training deaths. so we are now just thinking about those parachutists right now. >> yeah, my dad was a parachutist. >> no kidding? >> 82nd airborne division, so, very dangerous job. thank you,

abc's gio benitez is here with the story. good morning, gio. >>> hey, michael, good morning.next big thing but a freshman at u.c., santa cruz, is now facing some federal charges after prosecutors say he created an iphone app used to run a campus drug ring. collin howard, just 18 years old, is charged with felony drug charges. detectives say they were able to buy marijuana, cocaine and the party drug known as molly using his app called banana plug. you see it there. the app disguises itself as a game based around the university's banana slug mascot and brands itself with the slogan, we have what you want. now, university police say that howard was advertising the app with fliers on campus which led to that undercover investigation. now, according to prosecutors the student listed cocaine, molly and psychedelic mushrooms for sale, but allegedly offered other drugs upon special request. when howard appeared in court on tuesday he pleaded not guilty. if convicted, he could face more than 60 years in prison. what a wild story, guys. >> it really is. okay, gio, thank you very much.

and this morning, we're hearing the 911 call as this unfolded and gio benitez is here with this incredibleas all part of a training flight that went terribly wrong. but this morning, there are also two incredible survival stories. take a look. this morning, a terrifying scene in this quiet florida neighborhood. >> we got to get everybody out of the house. we crashed into a house. >> reporter: you're listening to a call to police after a plane crashed into a house in winter haven, florida. inside the house, a miraculous survival, a 17-year-old girl. >> one lady severely injured. still moving. one of the pilots is dead. >> reporter: the pilot, 64-year-old james wagner dying in the crash but the pilot trainee, 33-year-old tim sheehy survived. an ex-navy s.e.a.l., he walked away, called 911, and helped that girl. >> she's stuck in the wall. >> okay, you have one person stuck in the wall? >> reporter: a neighbor rushing to the house, too. >> i couldn't actually tell that that was a real person stuck in the wall, but she moved and said something. >> reporter: authorities say the teenager suffere

gio benitez is there with it latest. good morning. >> reporter: hey there, robin. good morning, investigators are working to identify that woman right now. shechs discovered inside a red suitcase. her hands and feet were bound. she was reported missing to new york state authorities and was last seen january 29th at about 9:00 a.m. police say her family was advised of the positive identification last night. authorities are sending heart felt con so lenses to them. investigators say a cause of death has not been confirmed. many pieces of possible physical evidence were collected. several agencies are involved trying to figure out who is responsible. tips are pouring in. police are asking the public for any information concerning the victor her disa peeps. michael? >> thank you. >>> now to new details about that deadly plane crash in california where a small plane slammed into a home. we're now learning the identity of the victims and more about the pilot's mysterious past. our chief national correspondent matt gutman is at the crash site this morning with the latest.
