only july 31st, gardner traveled to this resort island with giordano.hree days later, gardner disappeared as dusk fell on this isolated beach where giordano claims thehe had been snorkelin. but in the hours after police began to investigation, giordano went from boyfriend to suspect. was arrested august 5th. underpinning their case is this insurance policy. that is her signature on a travel insurance policy that names giordano as her beneficiary. it was inked jusus a day before they arrived here. according to the transcripts, giordano seemed to shock another employee with his urgency and insistence that the policy be valid. in another call, giordano seemed more concerned about being reimbursed for his expenses during the search, saying, quote, "ah, i'm going to stay down here until the body is found." and adding, "i'veot to extend my rental car and i just don't want to start incurring all these costs to find out i did it wrong." and the last person to see them together at this restaurant says they were both drinking and robyn seems already drunk and tha

then gardner and giordano drive around back to the jetty and it's here giordano and gardner allegedly went snorkeling. at first he claims she cut her foot on one of these rocks. they both go back out and then finally head back into the water. the current becomes too strong. he says he taps her foot to tell her to come in. he never sees her again. and then the re-enactment has giordano jogging back to the restaurant. so according to giordano's version of the tale, he comes rushing down this pathway, robyn having just disappeared in the water a few minutes later, tries to bang on the shutters and doors of the restaurant. someone answers him. they call the police, 20 minutes later the police arrive but it's that surveillance video that leaves so much room for interpretation. as opposed to the re-enactment this surveillance video obtained by abc news shows giordano walking, not running, something investigators have deemed suspicious for a man who just lost his companion. >> the fundamental question is going to be even though they have a lot of reasons to suspect him, are they going to hav

giordano was involved in it. >> reporter: so far it's a confounding mix of evidence. news reviewed a number of sworn witness statements that show robyn gardner's roommate that robyn was often covered in bruises but she refused to say where she got them but the roommate also told police she accused giordano of scary behavior in the past. just a few minines from where gary giordano is being held in the local jail here is this spot, this is the place where he says he last saw his girlfriend, robyn gardner. take a look at the rock, how jagged they are. that doesn't seem like a very unusual spot to go swimming, there is another reason that her roommate has told police she never would have gone in the water. the roommate stated robyn would avoid the water because she didn't want to ruin her hair and makeup. she has hair extensions and saltwater is really bad for extensions. in his statement to police, giordano said robyn had an appointment with her hairdresser scheduled for the day they returned. the trouble is, the roommate is the hairiresser and said nothing of the sort.
