you can see that light glaze of ice over the grille.says that his deck, his railings all covered in ice. really what you get in the form of wintry precipitation depends on the temperature at all layers of the atmosphere. this shows it pretty well. if you have cold air all the way from 5,000 feet to the surface, that is easy, you get snow. however if you have a thin layer of warmer air and then colder air, what happens is snowflakes will melt and then they refreeze. that's sleet. that's the ice pellets. then if you get warmer air lasting even longer but there's still cold air at the surface it becomes rain but it's freezing rain. if you have warmer air that extends down to the surface then it's just rain. i do want to remind people in south jersey and delaware, though, although it can be just rain, with that frozen ground it will be freezing on the untreated surfaces so definitely need to be careful tonight. once we get through tonight we have a big pattern change ahead. accuweather highlights show you tomorrow the warmest day in two wee

it's sort of a very light glaze. not enough to impact the power utility lines here. they need at least a quarter inch of ice there before that becomes problematic. in talking to the two big power utilities in the area, both peco and pse&g, they don't believe that their system is at any risk at this point in time given the forecast. take electrical distribution lines that run along your street to your hou large nearby trees and then mix in a forecast with a possibility of icing conditions. and you get the attention of those whose job it is to keep the lights on. pse&g has some one half million customers in what it calls its southern division. we spoke with the division manager shortly after 1:00 p.m. today. >> the latest forecast we have is trace amounts, maybe just a small amount of icing, so based upon that forecast, we don't anticipate much problems, john, but we're going to hold some crews just in case. >> reporter: since forecasts can change, pse&g will have crews on standby. maybe the biggest winter storm ice event in recent years was early february 2014. a espe
