with me is glen robinson, the ceo of the hospital in waco. >>> can you tell me at the moment how big you believe the injury toll is as we stand? >> at this time, i can certainly give you the numbers that we're aware of in our particular system. we're one of 12 hospitals in our system. wech received a total of 66 emergency vehicles and we have at least two more choppers that we know are inbound at this time bringing us additional patients who have been injured. i would say that in talking to our trama surgeons just a few minutes ago, many of the injuries that we're seeing are not extremely critical. maybe about 12 patients that would be classified as serious condition. we have two patients in the operating room. we have two more patient that is are being assessed at this time and heading to the operating room shortly. we also have transported this evening two pediatric patients to our children's hospital to receive a higher level of subspecialties here that we felt was appropriate for them. i am being told that burn patients are being direct ed to the dallas ft. worth texas, which is

we spoke with glen robinson who told us exactly what they're dealing with.en. >> we have seen as you would expect in this type of blast, a lot of lacerations. some small, some large. some puncture wounds. our orthopedic trauma team have also been taking care of a number of broken bones and dislocated hips and fractured hips, fractured legs, those types of things. we have also -- our neurosurgical trauma team has taken care of a handful of patients that have had head injuries. >> reporter: so, chris, you know, it's a lot of information here. but i want to tick through this list because there are several different hospitals. not only hillcrest but also providence, a nearby hospital. they saw 65 patients. also at scott & white. that's the level one trauma center for this region. they saw five patients. two of them children in critical condition. we also note three adults. two of those adults in critical condition, one in stable condition. also parkland hospital in dallas. keep in mind, they have one of the state's best burn units. two patients were sent there.

. >> i want to go to glen robinson now. he's the ceo of that center.joins us on the phone from waco, texas. sir, could you bring us up to date on the number of people you are working with? the number of people that are coming in? how many people have needed your services there so far? >> so far, we have treated here more than a hundred patients. so far, we have no fatality that is we have treated here at this facility. we're just really proud of our emergency personnel and the system and which it has worked. as you know, in this profession, the average person on the street would have no idea. we train and we drill and we hope something like this never happens. but, when it does, it's -- it's certainly rewarding to see the system work so that we can take care of so many people so rapidly. that our facility, alone, as i mentioned, we've cared for more than a hundred. our sister hospital, 30 miles to the south, they have treated several. and we have transported two pediatric patients. we knew that they would benefit from our children's hospital by receivi

. >> you've been listening to glen robinson, the ceo of hillcrest baptist medical center in waco lettingknow some 100 patients were transported there and from there they were able to -- >> all right. elizabeth cohen is with us here right now in boston. elizabe elizabeth, we were listening to that news conference in the hillcrest medical center describing the condition of these patients as they were coming in. one of the interesting things we heard is that early in the night, this explosion happened around 7:30 local time right there. early in the night they were seeing irritation in the eyes which to me sounds like a chemical issue there but they weren't seeing that all night long. >> what's going on here it appears to be the release of anhydrous ammonia. and anhydrous ammonia is a chemical that is used in fertilizer. when it releases the effects can be anything from irritation to the eyes, nose, throat, you get into fresh air and you're fine. that's that is if you don't breathe in a lot of it. if you breathe in a lot of it you can have the issue of severe irritation or even death. so, f
