chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn? >> we started off today with sunshine in parts of the area, but the clouds continue to advance, and the reason for that, the wind is coming out of the east. we have a storm down to our south, and the moisture is moving up in this direction. so the way we start the day is not necessarily the way we're going to end the day. you can see the clouds moving up from the south now. it's obviously thicker cloud cover in delaware than it is up in the lehigh valley and in the poconos. and look at all the rain. quite a bit of it in the delmarva moving slowly northward. this is not moving up quickly, but it's a very large system, and most of it is going to stay to our south, but we're going to be on the northern edge of that. at least in parts of the area. the future cast doesn't really pick up as much of the rain as i think may actually fall. especially in southern delaware and extreme south jersey, but the threat of rain starts really increasing later tonight and into tomorrow morning, and the f

let's check in with nbc 10 first alert glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn, what are we doingence on a day like today. >> that's right. especially when we compare this to the next couple of days when the humidity is going to be so high and the temperature is going to be even higher than today. a lot of blue in that sky right now. the atmosphere overall very dry, kind of clean. no pollution issues today. and we don't see any moisture very close by, do we? it's way back by chicago. that's the nearest rain. so the future cast shows us the dry conditions throughout the afternoon. and into tonight. we'll watch what happened with the clouds as we go into the morning hours with southerly wind and rapid increase in humidity. expecting more clouds to break out and eventually showers tomorr tomorrow. nothing like saturday. temperatures upper 70s, low 80s. right now the humidity not all that high. so it's relatively comfortable, especially compared who what we're going to see tomorrow and saturday. high temperatures 88 degrees. later on this afternoon, nothing bu

. >> nbc 10 first alert cheat meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. when can weç expect to see tha weather. >> the clouds are starting to increase after that beautiful sunshine during the day. but the live radar really not showing us much until we get west of lancaster, starting to see the showers build up, even some thunderstorms in central pennsylvania. and then is slowly moving in our direction. we're talking about the evening hours, at 5:00, nothing going on. look what happens as we go into 8:00 ws 9:00, 10:00. at least some showers scattered around the area, nothing huge, nothing severe. but we do have that shower threat and potentially a couple more showers during the day tomorrow. the temperature's well above average. we got up to 79. so far in philadelphia we're in the 70s across much of the area and through this evening, 6:00, i think we'll still be dry. but by 8:00 and 10:00, some showers in the vicinity but there's a whole lot more coming over the weekend. i'll have the timing on that with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> and count on th

glenn, how cool is it going to get? >> renee, a lot of places once again going to be dropping down into the 40s. we had a bit of cloud cover for a few hours and even a couple of sprinkles down toward delaware, but now that we've cleared out, the temperature is going to really start dropping. it's already only 69 degrees in pottstown. 72 in philadelphia. and with the clear skies, light wind and low humidity, these numbers are going to drop fairly quickly. so, as we go through the evening hours, we're going to be seeing mostly clear skies now that that weak system is gone. temperatures dropping into the 60s in the city, and in the 50s in the suburbs. just by 10:00. but it's going to be a big warming trend as we head through the weekend. more on that and a chance of rain with the seven-day in a few minutes. >> all right, thank you, glenn. >>> new at 6:00, a guilty plea from a california man who forced a u.s airways flight to divert back to philadelphia. he agreed to a plea deal in federal court in philadelphia. he admitted

nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. glenn? >> vai, it certainly feels like fall out there, and the temperature is not going up very much despite sunshine. 68 degrees in philadelphia now. 71 in northeast philly. that's about as warm as it gets. only 63 in allentown, 71 in georgetown. we have some pretty gusty winds, 20 to 30 miles an hour. the direction is out of the west and northwest. there's even colder air coming from that direction, and so it's a pretty chilly first couple of days of the week. as you can see, the temperature not going up much. not much above 70 degrees despite the sunshine. the winds gusting up to 30 miles an hour during the afternoon, and then really diminishing as we go into the night tonight. and later tonight specifically at 10:29 p.m., fall starts, and summer ends. and it is certainly going to feel like fall. i'll tell you just how cold it's going to get in your neighborhood along with a big warm-up in the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> and take a look at what a typhoon has left in taiwan. the storm

glenn?> yes, keith and jacqueline. it will be cool for this time of the year. and it's not the only night that i'm going to be able to say that for the seven-day forecast. a mix of clouds and sun across much of the area, more sunshine toward the shore than we've seen in other places. that's allowed the temperature to go up, more clouds up to the north and west, kept the temperature down more at 68 degrees in pottstown right now. 69 in reading while it's 76 in georgetown, 73 in wildwood. this is the satellite and radar, the radar echos, the rain, that moved offshore this morning. these are just clouds, fairly low to the ground, fairly thin and the atmosphere above it is very, very dry. that's why we're not seeing any rain. it's dry for hundreds and hundreds of miles to the west where our air is coming from. so we're getting clearing skies as the sun starts to go down. but then the temperatures will drop pretty quickly because of the low humidity and the light wind. 61 in philadelphia by 10:00

glenn? we're seeing most of it in delaware, northeast maryland, coming into parts of the philadelphia area but obviously it's not raining everywhere. much of that rain is very, very light, more in the form of sprinkles. you can see it on the live radar. not all of this is reaching the ground, especially the stuff in central new jersey is not reaching the ground. the rain goes all the way back to the washington, d.c. area. it may be heavier batch right here in philadelphia itself. but it all depends on where the radar is tilted. so if it's tilted up into the clouds where it's heavier, that doesn't necessarily mean it's heavy raining right on your head at the ground. but the overall picture continues to flow right in the same direction. so it's not exactly moving out of here. it's keeping the temperature down 70 degrees. in wilmington, the wettest part of our area right now and only into the low 70s and others. sprinkles around at 6:00 and a chance of it continuing over the next couple of hour

how does it feel out there, glenn? >> i happen to be in the shade at the moment.t's pretty chilly. if you're out in the sun, it's certainly a lot more comfortable. the wind is constant, then it gusts sometimes 25 to 30 miles an hour, obviously making it feel even cooler. well, the temperatures are a whole lot lower than they were at this time yesterday. look how blue that sky is. but it is only 66 degrees in allentown. 69 in philadelphia. and warm spots, 73 in georgetown. those temperatures are way below average, especially for a fairly sunny day. look at the wind gusts, 30 miles an hour, still up in reading, 28 miles an hour in lancaster. now, those winds will die down. that's going to be the key to how cold it's going to get tonight. and do expect it to go nearly calm and with the light wind and low humidity, philadelphia itself down to 49, to the northern, western suburbs, as cold as 39 degrees. again, way below average. we do have a big warmup coming but we also have the threat of some significant rain, at least in parts of the area. that's coming up with the

. >> nbc 10 chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz tracking the threat. what are the chances of seeing severe weather? >> i would say, chances of getting some showers and thunderstorms are pretty high, very high, closer to 100%. the chance of getting damaging winds, that's closer to perhaps about 50/50 at this point. 24 hour as head of the event, that's fairly high probability and that's why we've got the first alert to give you heads up about what is likely to happen or late day thunderstorms, some with potentially damaging winds, light thing, some big downpours coming with this, as well you can see this large area that is coming eastward, it's with the cold front. it's going to hold together. and you can see some lines of thunderstorms with potentially severe weather. let's take a look at futurecast. give you a quick view. tomorrow morning, it's fine. it's hot and humid tomorrow. during the afternoon, i think a line of thunderstorms going to be developing. and as it moves towards the philadelphia and i-95 corridor, it's happening just as we go into the

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. >> we were way up in the 80s over the weekend with beautiful sunshine, but we're not going to see either of those things much of this week. we have mostly cloudy skies right now. that helping to keep the temperature down. we did get up to 84 degrees saturday, 86 on sunday. now, we'll maybe touch 80 degrees today if we get a little bit of sun during the afternoon. it's only 70 degrees right now. it's close to that elsewhere, but 77 in northeast philly, 73 in mount holly and atlantic city. most places still fairly cloudy. we had a little bit of fog this morning but there's no rain around and we don't expect rain during the day today. temperatures rising up well through the 70s. the average high is only 73 for this time of the year. so even though it's not nearly as warm as the weekend, temperatures still above average. we'll see how long that lasts and when we do get rain and we could actually use some with the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> this just into nbc 10, the trial is under way for former philadelphia spo

glenn "hurricane" schwartz outside on the patio. how does it feel out there?> it's obviously getting colder than it was a couple hours ago when i was out here before. we're also clearing out, the sky is clear. the wind will go down, the humidity is low and the temperature will plunge as a result. right now we're in the 60s, 64 in allentown and pottstown. 63 in lancaster. 72 in georgetown, delaware. we're starting from pretty low point. look how much colder it is north and west than it was at this time yesterday. 15 degrees colder in pottstown. they're still gusting up to 20 miles an hour. the gusts are diminishing. that's the first sign that the temperature will go down significantly later tonight as the wind goes calm. in philadelphia itself, 49 degrees when you wake up in the morning. some of theçó colder suburbs, 3 as we start fall. it will feel more like october than september. but there is a big warmup ahead and also some coastal rain possible. we'll comment on that with the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> day two of a two-day walkout for nurses from croz

. >> the latest on the warm temperatures from chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. >> we have only had three days this summer hotter than today. of course, one of the reasons, all this sunshine all across the entire area from the poconos to the shore. it's down to 90 degrees in philadelphia. we have been up to 93 so far. 90 in aenl tollentown and readi. that just tells a part of the story. the humidity is very high. the feels-like temperature, 100 in dover. 97 atlantic city. 96 in wilmington. 95 in philadelphia. in philly, it reached 98. it's still dry. you need more than heat and humidity at the ground to get showers and thunderstorms. you have those ingredients to the west. there's maryland, severe storm there. some other storms approaching harrisburg. even more are back to the west. yeah, there are going to be showers and storms in the area this evening. not over the next couple of hours. but that stuff from maryland starts moving eastward, going into delaware, especially new castle county. it will take a few hours. another area goes toward the poconos. showers and storms o

. >> reporter: tonight, glenn chin, who was head pharmacist for the new england compounding center, stands charged with one count of mail fraud for labeling steroids as sterile and safe for human use when he knew they weren't. f.d.a. investigators say chin instructed pharmacy technicians to mislabel medication to indicate it was properly sterilized and tested and fraudulently complete cleaning logs in the labs. the affidavit states the n.e.c.c. then shipped those tainted steroids to pain doctors in michigan, who unknowingly injected them into their patients. 217 got fungal infections, including meningitis in one clinic alone. joe connolly worked for chin as a lab tech at n.e.c.c. in an interview with scott pelley for "60 minutes," he says he warned his boss about the contamination risks. >> pelley: when you went to your supervisor and told him that, he said what? >> that's verbatim. he shrugged. that was his response for a lot of our questions or comments or concerns, was a shrug. >> reporter: one of the company's owners, barry cadden, also didn't appear worried about oversight from state
