glenn, it's cooling down tonight?> yeah, there was nowhere to go other than down after we got up to 65 degrees at 2:00 this morning. we also have a lot of sunshine out there, except for the poconos, clouds in that area. we have the camera shaking a little bit. there is a good bit of wind. certainly been a windy day. 51 now in philadelphia. 48 in allentown. 46 in reading. quite a change from what we saw at this time yesterday when temperatures were in the 60s. now, the wind has been gusting up close to 40 miles an hour. it is really diminishing now. only a few places even gusting over 20 miles an hour. as we go through the night, the wind will continue to die down. the temperatures going back a lot closer to the average for this time of the year. back down into the low 40s by 11:00 tonight. we have muchgcñ colder air than this on the way. we'll see if any of that is coming before the weekend is up with the seven day in a few minutes. >>> new information on an overnight hoagire in delaware. we've learned the home's only

glenn? >> jacqueline, it's been mostly in southern sections during the day today.it started to move up through the rest of the area. the visibility is still pretty good in most places but starting to go down a little bit. we'll be seeing more and more fog overnight. you can see the rain spreading to the north, finally getting into southeastern pennsylvania along with delaware and south jersey. it is all light. the icing is pretty much taking place in central new jersey at the moment. temperatures above freezing everywhere except for the poconos. 32 degrees, could be light icing there. the rest of the area not getting close to the freezing mark later tonight, temperatures will not be dropping a whole lot. the rain will continue to be there and the fog i think will become more widespread later tonight. then we talk about heavier rain. that's coming with the rest of the seven-day in a few minutes. >> the threat of more rain on christmas eve could cause big delays at the airport on the rail and on the road. tonight, some people are getting a jump start on their holiday

glenn, how cold is it going to get tonight? >> well renee, i think most of us will see below freezing temperatures tonight. it will all depend on how much cloud cover we have. we have a mix of clouds and clear skies across our area right now. it's pretty variable. we have more clouds to the south and also well to the north where there's snow flurries. none of that's coming this way. it's already down to 33 in allentown. 36 in reading. and 35 in millville, 36 atlantic city international. it's not going to take much to get down into the 20s in those areas. now, in philadelphia itself with mostly cloudy skies tonight, the temperature will go down a little bit more slowly. 36 degrees by 11:00, while most of the area is in the 20s. we have colder weather as we head toward the new year. details on that in the seven-day in just a few minutes. >> thanks, glenn. >>> philadelphia is putting the finishing touches on its new year's plans. that includes one of philly's biggest traditions mummerfest. you're getting a sneak peek the the new y

glenn?vai, this is a slow developing and slow moving nor'easter that's going to be affecting us much of the week and we have first alert out not only for tonight but all the way through wednesday at least. slow moving nor'easter, some flooding rains, strong winds, coastal flooding, and even a change over to snow in parts of the area. we are up way up here at the top. this is the low pressure center that's developing. it's way offshore, but it's going to be redeveloping along the coast. watch the wind circulation here. that's where it is now, and by tonight it's redeveloping along the north carolina coast and it's tracking so close to the coast that it looks like it's going to be mainly rain because we're bringing that warm ocean air in here, but it's a very, very slow moving system, and even when it's past us we have the threat of some snow. this is way ahead of the main area. we had a little snow, that's changing over to a little bit of light rain right now near the shore and in parts of de

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here to tell us what's in store for tonight. glenn?s going to be pretty nice night and some folks hoping for colder weather generally, skiers, this is a live shot of camelback ski resort. it's a pretty big crowd there. conditions have not been too great the last couple days. next week they'll be able to make snow every single night. conditions will improve. we have mostly clear skies across the entire eastern united states. at the moment, temperatures in the upper 40s to near 50 degrees. still above average for this time of the year and not much wind, either. if clear skies and light wind, that's going to allow the temperature to fall fairly quickly during the evening hours. but it is going to stay dry, no doubt about that. 39 degrees by 11:00. we have much colder air coming in next week and also some rain that is going to hit before the weekend is over. details on that with the seven-day in a few minutes. >>> developing right now, police are questioning the driver of a pickup truck that crashed into a bucks county house overnight and

glenn "hurricane" schwartz is standing by with a closer look at that. glenn? >> a degree or two can make a big difference. good thing we were 65 yesterday. that kept the roads kind of warm. marginal temperatures just icing in some nonpaved areas. the temperature up a degree in reading and allentown to 32. it's 32 in quakertown, coatesville, 33 in doylestown. that's up a degree. up two degrees in philadelphia. plenty warm enough across i-95 and farther to the south and east. let's go into the areas that are really close. this is in chester county, coatesville at 33, chadds ford, westtown, 33 degrees. 33 up in the northern portion of the county. 32 in phoenixville. 31 in glenn more and, if anything, these temperatures will go up. montgomery county is looking in better shape, blue bell at 36. 33 at collegeville and eagleville and even in the upper portion of montgomery county, barely above freezing. that's how close it is. i'll be back with another look at the temperatures and the rainfall. what's ahead, rain for the weekend, too, the seven-day in a few minutes.

let's go to nbc 10 first alert chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz. glenn?, jim, it's actually going to start feeling more like december out there. they've had a rough weekend in the poconos. this is camelback. they will be able to start making snow as we go into the weekend. may actually get some of the natural stuff next week. but it's dry for now. we've had some fair weather clouds during the day today, but they are gone and we have clear skies. it's 50 degrees now. 45 in pottstown. 39 in the poconos. and 48 degrees even in georgetown, delaware. we still have a few places showing gusts of 20 to 25 miles an hour. we have seen gusts up to 40 miles an hour this afternoon in philadelphia, itself. now, as we go through the rest of the night, the clear skies, very light wind is going to allow the temperature to drop down into the low 40s in philadelphia at 11:00. it will be in the 30s in many of the suburbs. so get the winter coats back out. you're really going to need them next week. i'll have the details on that plus new year's in just a few minutes. >>> well

let's begin with glenn. >> a large and very slow moving nor'easter. and if the rain stopped where you are, that does not mean the storm is over. we did see a break in it around philadelphia, but you can see some rain starting to come back. new york city and long island, that's the area getting smashed now. some of that moisture is moving to the west and could make its way into parts of our area this afternoon. the snow and the ice in the poconos is pretty much gone away as the temperature have risen as expected. that's not the last you have seen of any kind of snow. you can see a band of rain coming across philadelphia area right now. the flood watch is canceled from philadelphia southward but still in effect burlington county through montgomery, bucks county, lehigh valley and ocean county, new jersey. the center of the storm you can see here just off the new jersey coastline. we're starting to get more of a north wind instead of the on shore wind. that will diminish any flood threat. this is moving slowly and colder air will come down on the back si

standing by is glenn "hurricane" schwartz to talk more about the flooding threat. >> i think that will be the biggest problem for tomorrow morning. the combination of the on shore winds, near full moon and also the heavy rain will add up to some trouble. this is the storm organizing off the coast and it will redevelop off the carolina coast, the wind coming in off the ocean. hour after hour after hour. and it just piles up the water right along the coastline right at the time of high tide. and that is not a good combination. you can sees flow from the theeft. that's why we call it a nor'easter. and what do we expect at the shore? there now a coastal flood warning in effect. the on shore winds of up to 50 miles an hour. moderate coastal flooding. more sirs than the flooding we saw this morning and the high tide with 8:00 and 10:00. we'll have more on the time t l table in a few minutes. >>> the impact along the coast could be significant. >> that's right. ted greenberg is live in ocean city. tell us what people are doing in advance of the nor'easter. >> reporter: well, right now emergen

glenn, what are we up against? >> well, certainly a lot of clouds over the next couple days, maybe longer, and some periods of rain. the clouds are thickening up across the philadelphia area but still see a couple patches of blue in some places and the clouds are not that thick, at least not yet. they are thicker down to the south where we are seeing some rain in southern delaware. that rain area is spreading up to the north going into the dry air that's on top of us now. so it's not happening quickly, and when it does happen, the rain is going to be pretty light. we're not talking about any kind of heavy rain. the heaviest stuff is way offshore and continuing to move away. temperatures are above freezing but not by a whole lot. it's a cold day out there, and with the clouds and with the rain, it's certainly going to feel like a winter day, but no snow in the forecast. the clouds thickening up at noon, patchy areas of rain by 3:00, and becoming a little bit more widespread by 6:00, but, again, it is on the light si

chief meteorologist glenn "hurricane" schwartz is here with the forecast. snow is the talk of the day. >> it's all related to this same nor'easter that we have been following all week. you can track the moisture coming all the way around and right back into our area. you can see that there's some pretty significant bands of snow that have set up. parts of montgomery and bucks county, near the border. it has been snowing hour after hour. it's getting heavier in northern burlington county as well. there's bucks county covered with mostly light snow. but it is a little bit heavier in some points. it's also near the freezing mark. the new area of snow that has been developed from chester county and new castle county, delawar delaware, salem county, new jersey, it's generally melting. we will be watching this band of snow as we go through the afternoon. visibility tells us how heavy the snow is. reading, three miles. quakertown and doylestown, less than two mile visibility. eight miles in philly international. wrights t wrightstown is down a good bit. no restric
