[applause] neera: thank you, everybody. fork you so much to glenn introducing this panel. i cannot think of better people to discuss the state of the economy. we're lucky to have paul krugman and senator brown. senator brown, i will start out you. last year, he released a paper called "working too hard for too little." work, he argued that hard is not valued, and you outlined several ideas to make hard work pay off you said. -- we need to change the way that we think about the american economy. what did you mean by that, and what were some of the ideas? sen. brown well, for a number of years, we have seen corporate profits go up, executive compensation explode, but activity go up and workers wages flat. workers wages are flat, or either scaled-back. whether it is retirement or health-care benefits, those are skilled back jumped. profits look at humana, not too long ago, they made of 3000 workers in the name of cutting costs. that has become the definition of corporate success, always shifting costs onto the workforce by cutting benefits and costs or
