it was colonel glenn long before he was elected to the senate. colonel glenn 2n eagle scout dinner in mansfield, ohio. only a 4 - a few short weeks earlier, in my court of honor i was awarded the eagle scout award, was 16 years old. i got to meet colonel glenn, his words inspired us, he stayed with me and we looked for ways to serve community and country. 38 years john granted me the honor of walking me down the center aisle, when senators are sworn in, any term they serve they are accompanied by a senator from their state or a former senator, that senator seem to be sworn in and i chose to walk down with my friend and former senator john glenn. john's kindness, he had a humility and kindness unusual in this business and somebody with his level of accomplishment. his kindness, intelligence and courage, his commitment to service set an example. his legacy will live on not just in the pages of history books but through the americans he inspired whether it was passion for exploration that led him to join nasa. dedication to country the called him to

john glenn's love of flight was life-long, john glenn senior spoke of the many summer evening he arrivedound the yard, pretending he was piloting a plane. last june at a ceremony renaming the columbus airport, john glenn recalled imploring his parents to take him to the airport to look at planes when they passed through the city. he said it was something i was fascinated with. he piloted his own plane until the age of 90. his goal of becoming a commercial pie loot changed after world war ii. he left college to join the naval air corps and then the united states marines. he became a successful fighter pilot who ran 69 hazardous missions as a volunteer. a war later, in korea, he earned the nick name, old magnet something, which he sometimes fair phrased. he says i was the only one that went in low and got them, explaining he often landed with huge holes in the side of his aircraft that he didn't like to shoot from highly altitudes. so the special record today is john glenn has died at the age of 95. details on the funeral and arrangements will be made available soon. please stay tuned to f
