thank you, gloria.s morning, san francisco unified school teachers are one step closer to going on strike. the union has authorized one abc7 news reporter lena howland live in san francisco with what the teachers are demanding from contract negotiation. lena >> well, more than 97% of san francisco unified teachers voted to authorize a strike yesterday and they're hoping to see things like pay benefits, prep time and what they are calling a skyrocketing teacher vacancy rate addressed. now even though it was overwhelmingly approved, that does not mean the teachers are going to walk out, but it does now give union leaders the power to call one. after the strike was authorized, the district put out a new offer with a $10,000 raise for all credentialed teachers with a 4% raise. >> nobody wants to go on strike. teachers and educators don't want it. parents and families don't want it. however in order to avoid a strike, sfusd must support our teachers and support staff and agree to a fair contract. >> workers

gloria >> all right. thank you so much, drew. we'll start this morning with the urgent effort to find the man suspected in the deadly mass shooting in maine. as we speak, hundreds of law enforcement officers are involved in the search for robert cod. maine's governor now says 18 people are dead. some of those victims are being identified now. they include a youth bowling coach and members of a deaf cornhole club. a law enforcement source tells abc news that the suspect had affiliations at both the local bowling alley and the bar that he allegedly targeted. the source says he may have been looking for an ex-girlfriend at one. the suspect also now appears to have been fairly thoughtful about eluding police. police recovered a cell phone that he left behind, apparently thinking it could be tracked and jobina. as the search intensifies, thousands of people are essentially locked down, right? >> yes, gloria, schools and businesses will be closed again today in a shelter in place. order now spans across two counties. last night, law en

good morning, gloria. >> this is a moderate to strong red flag warning. we haven't seen one in quite some time. and the winds will be strongest in the upper elevations of the north and east bay. a red flag warning pretty much all around the bay area, except for the bay shore. northeast winds already gusting in the upper elevations at the surface. we'll see those winds quite breezy to 25 and 30 miles an hour. upper elevations could be as high as 60 miles an hour in the wind. advisory is with us right now for these highlighted areas where we could see the strongest gusts over 60 miles an hour. that would happen tonight into the early part of your sunday morning. it is 50 downtown mild. there 40 palo alto. look at the temperatures in our inland valleys in the 30s. so certainly chilly from santa rosa out towards fairfield , 43 in concord. and as current check now you'll notice that the north winds not too bad, but still they will be gaining strength steadily throughout the next several hours. and with plenty of sunshine, that warmth will be offset with those

hey, gloria, good morning to you. >> it certainly cold out there. those winds will take care of the chill, but then we have to worry about the high fire danger all weekend long. so the winds beginning to get pretty gusty up in the upper elevations and that's where the wind advisory starts at 8:00. but this is the red flag warning. pretty much all around the bay area except for the bay shore north to northeast, winds 15 to 30 miles an hour could be gusting 40 to 60 miles an hour on the highest elevations. and that will bring the relative humidity down to about 10. could even be less in spots. 8:00 this morning in the upper elevations will see those winds continue to pick up. and this could knock trees down, bringing a few power outages and those unsecure objects certainly could be blowing around. so right now, mount saint helena, 31 miles an hour, mount diablo just at ten. and we are chilly at 30 in novato. those upper elevation gusty winds are expected to mix down to the surface. so that's why we're so concerned for the weekend. it is 44 in oakland.
