live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria.rning we're looking into police pursuits after a high speed chase from el cerrito to the bay bridge toll plaza led to a deadly crash. the victim is 57 year old david lee weiner from lafayette. authorities say he was heading to work in san francisco when a speeding truck connected to a store break in in el cerrito collided with his vehicle. abc seven spoke with a woman who was a victim, and another police pursuit back in december and officer chasing a car across the bay bridge and into the east bay crashed into her. >> there are other safer alternatives to police chases. and i really think that we need to approach police chases with extreme caution. >> based on a 2021 report, chp says there were around 12,000 police pursuits that year. of those, 20% resulted in a crash. about 60% were property damage. only 25% were injury crashes and close to 2% were deadly. >> a woman has been sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for a bizarre crime that involved identity theft, forgery and dumping
