president shawn beauford and the firefighter, and the representative keith baracca, and member gloria barry and the many other firefighters and the community leaders who have spoke publicly in support of this effort. i also want to recognize jen snyder and preston gilmore on my staff who led the community outreach. we're very eager to move this forward and we hope to have your support. and earl gage jr. moved to san francisco in 1945 and graduated from berkeley and was drafted into the army. and he was hired by the san francisco fire department and he at that time became the first black firefighter for the city of san francisco. for 12 years he remained the city's only black firefighter and he continued in service in the department for nearly 30 years. throughout his tenure at the department, earl gage jr. diligently worked to have inclusive and equitable processes for the san francisco fire department recruitment and the integration of the department. prior to his department from the fire department in 1983, he served as a department director of community services and adopted progressive h
