colin goddard now works with the brady campaign to prevent gun violence. he just returned from meeting with survivors and their parents in newtown. the british campaign was the first trip to meet vice president joe biden's task force on guns, and later colin is headed to the white house to attend president of his announcement on gun-control. he is joining us from washington, d.c.. welcome back to "democracy now!" though the announcement has not been made as of this broadcast, president obama says he is calling for a ban on assault weapons, and high-capacity magazines. your response? >> i think that makes sense. i think the president has taken a comprehensive look at gun violence and gun policy in america and realized there are multiple ways to move forward that will make it more difficult for dangerous people to get their hands on increasingly lethal weapons that do damage to american people. we really applaud the leadership from the administration, the comprehensive look they are taking. i think it will go along with to maintaining the public engagement o

>> alexandria goddard was on the case from the beginning. she is from steubenville, ohio. had been following the details and actual tracing tweets from a football players and athletes at the school almost immediately after the charges were filed in august. she garnered the attention of the community on her blog. even in the comment section, a lot of people are saying either, yes, this is a football-crazed town or actually blaming the victim for what happened -- for what allegedly happened to her. after her blogging, the new york times wrote an article about it just a month ago chronicling the events of the evening. and the possibility that more people were involved. >> what is believed that took place that night? >> according to anonymous and the new york times, they're saying a 16-year old girl from a neighboring town in west virginia was taken to a series of party celebrating the end of this summer and the beginning of the football season. she was intoxicated or possibly date raped an unconscious, even, at one point, being carried by football players from party to party
