goni near the philippines and atsani near the philippines islands. they are strong storms and continue to show their intensity. here is a look on friday, northern cost of luzon, clouds all around. let me point out, something we can look at satellite perspective on visible imagery. notice how hazy and how kind of milky this area looks rather than clear cloud tops toward the north. that means very strong winds taking place starting to really rip the clouds apart. so we have more of the milky type of perspective. now, as we look forward in time, yes, the northern coast of the philippines will continue to get impacted with not only strong winds but high waves and heavy rainfall progressing throughout the next 48 hours. this system, goni, will turn north and east, bring lots of heavy rainfall on the eastern side of taiwan, okinawa islands progressing into the first part of next week. we are looking at very strong winds, over 90 kilometers per hour for ishigaki and areas around there and then naha, looking at strong winds progressing over time. lots of rai

it's indirectly associated with what is left of goni, no longer a typhoon an extra-tropical low. winds down in ishigaki. highest winds ever recorded on that island. they're very typhoon prone. quite incredible. look at this rain total. 667 millimeters into the kie peninsula. the storm tracks back here to the west. that moisture inflow coming in from the south and really just been piling up the showers even in the tokyo area you're starting to see that rain really start to come down as we go ahead through our wednesday. should taper off as we go into thursday but still on and off showers expected up and down the pacific coastline. the big threat with this storm is it's moving into parts of far eastern russia, china and north korea. we could see seeing as much as 100 millimeters of precipitation. there's a chance of flooding coming out of this. fukuoka you'll be seeing rain showers on wednesday. on and off showers in tokyo into thursday. some could become heavy. but vladivostok into russia, that's where we see the worst of the weather. not uncommon to get high ones in russia. this

turning also to weather, typhoon goni, it is intensifying. the philippines and eastern taiwan. emergency officials say several people were killed in the philippines. our alison chinchar is following the developments there. as goni strengthens it's bad news. >> they are going to see the brunt of this storm. you can see that clearly on this graphic. you can see goen any on the left-hand side of the screen and asani will stay over the sea. here are the current statistics. it has increase nd last couple of years, up to 165 kilometer per hour winds, gusting up to 205 kilometers per hour. northward movement about 11 kilometers per hour. more importantly take a look at the eye of the storm. it has really become very intense and very clear in just the last few frames and that's a very good indicator of how it's strengthened and one of reasons why it's been able to strength season a lot of what you are seeing there. all the bright colors, the pinks, reds, yellows, that is unfavorable area for a cyclone to move through, however the blue area which is e

. >> yes, well, what happened here was goni, it was the typhoon, we were talking about it all week., became extra tropical and started to weaken here. you can see on the satellite picture, it fanned out moving off towards the north. but we still have a tremendous amount of rainfall with the storm system as it slammed into parts of north korea, towards russia. pyongyang, 300 millimeters of precipitation came down in 24 hours, but worse than the flooding, the northeastern portions of north korea where media is reporting upwards of 40 casualties from the severe flooding taking place there. and heavy rainfall and flooding outside the area as well. the good news, it's still moving off towards the north. also, much of this area, we're getting a lot of rainfall in a short period of time. that causes flooding. but most this location, especially northeastern china, suffering a severe drought, so you need the rain, but it's resulting in some tragic scenarios. now, back towards the east, we saw the rain bands flowing in across parts of japan today. some showers in northern portions of honshu.

the goni is going to be pulling in towards taiwan, into northern luzon in the later half of this week. it will possibly affect the southwestern islands of japan in the coming days. keep a very, very close eye on it. here across the americas, a similar picture here, the jetstream is meandering down the south carrying that autumnal cool area from the north clashing with the humid air of the gulf of mexico and the collision will be moving towards the northeast making for a severe thunderstorm warning already in place in ontario. we're talking about 75 millimeters in total. that could cause flooding. a lot of precipitation across the east, but not at all in where we really want it. the relative low humidity is really down to the single digits across parts of the western locations and seattle hitting 31. all great recipe for the fire weather and the fire danger unfortunately will be continuing. i do want to take you down towards the southern hemisphere because this is a really different picture from that. we're looking at heavy snowfall in peru. take a look at this. people in peru are seei

it's typhoon goni. flash floods have killed at least 15 people. let's go to rob and find out whether it's about to do anymore damage. >> it probably well. it's following the japanese island chain there. what you just saw on video is caused by the rain, gusts of 163 kilometers per hour. that was last night local time. since then, this typhoon has moved north. you can see the eye actually quite clearly. it is accelerating toward the main japanese island. this caused the affair we have been watching now for at least a week with this typhoon in the ocean. goni is still a category three storm. it should be weakening by now, but hasn't started to do so. it will do slowly and it's up here in the cold waters of the sea of japan. it's just being felt there by the amount of rain that's fallen. the winds haven't yet got up, but considering that and considering how strong it is, it's still as it goes through the korean strait likely to gust to 150 kilometers per hour. this could be damaging because of the amount of rain potential, and still because it's a win

closer to the philippines and not far behind it is atsani a large and impositive storm and first with goni, strong typhoon, packing winds to 80 and gusting to 152, blushing ever so closer or near lawsian, and it's going to move to the north, and it's already bringing strong winds with it, and the waves are picking up as well so please be very careful. stay away from the coastline as this system goes past the area. it will try to make its way towards taiwan before moving further east and making its way to the okinawa islands. we're talking about very active weather as we go into sunday, monday and tuesday, extending from ishigaka into naha and prepare now as the system will be bringing all this rain as we go into the first part of the week. atsani packing winds of 80 to 152 and pressure is expected to drop even further and becoming a violent typhoon making its way to the islands and even though the central circulation may not be over the islands, it's expected to bring all the moisture and strong winds and high waves in the process, so, please, make sure you're preparing for this as we go i

both goni and also at soni. look at goni, you will notice it is between the philippines and taiwan. sustained wind right now, 185 kilometers. still moving due west at 9 kilometers per power but it is expected to shift off towards the northea and east within the next 24 hours. it will line itself basically p in between japan and taiwan and take that track off there. that's good thing meaning the eye doesn't actually make land fall over land specifically. now there will still be a lot of moisture out there regardless of where the eye wall actually makes it. take a look at the eastern edge of taiwan. we are talking about total numbers exceeding 250 millimeters over the next 48 hours. but western side of taiwan, which is actually more of the population is, that should be a little bit dryer. so that's much better news to have. forecast accumulation again take a look at some of the numbers exceeding 250 millimeters in the last four -- in the next 48 hours. so again, we will have to keep an eye on it. also the wave hei

goni is now in the philippines forecast zone. they are keeping track of that.looks like it will stay north of them. they hope it doesn't head toward taiwan. they just got slammed by one. and then the other one asante looks like it's heading for japan. it may miss them. for us, nothing of that ilk. quiet at the heavyian islands. a couple of lows but not heading our way. the fog is. it came back in a big way. 50s, 60s on the temps. brentwood was about 76 yesterday. 11 degrees cooler at travis than 24 hours ago. 6 at concord. 8 at livermore. 8 at san jose. 5 napa. 6 at mountain view. 2 to 3 everywhere else. it will be much cooler. westerly breeze. west west for most. there is a compe comment comment of a west for west -- component of a west breeze. big fog bank. a lot of cooler conditions. even well inland. i did hold onto 100. that would be clearlake. by tomorrow, i think 90s there. 60s, 70s by the way. a lot of 80s that were two days ago. inland locations will drop in the low 90s. 80s for many including downtown san jose. 60s, 70s. and then 80s on the peninsula.

goni is going to slide off to the north ever so slightly to the north and east. it is expected to bring some pretty heavy rainfall starting in just a few hours and gradually over the next 48 hours for parts of eastern taiwan. the problem is because it's all that rain in a short period of time, they are likely to get some localized flooding and mud slides as well. 72 hours from now we'll see impacts in japan. here's a look at the totals. a lot of places, totals around 150 millimeters total in the next 48 hours. now comparing the two storms that we have in the western pacific to the first major hurricane that we had had the atlantic, danny, you can see size is quite different. we have atsani at 425 kilometers wide compared to danny, 111 kilometers wide. hurricane danny is going to track to the west at 160 kilometers per hour, but as it continues to do so, it's going to hit an unfavorable environment. we have extra wind shear and drier conditions. so it is expected to weaken considerably over the next couple days. eventually down to tropical storm status and over to
