anne, good morning. >> reporter: good morning. the protest scheduled for here at the powell station at 4:30. so if your train even goes through the station, be aware there could be more disruptions tonight, although i did just speak with a bart spokesman and he said they will try to do everything to stop any of the stations from being closed. the goal of the protestors today, though, is to try to force bart's hand to get passengers allowed to ride free. this is one of a string of protests that we have seen in recent weeks since july 3 when bart police shot and killed a man at the civic center station. and then at one of the those protests, bart shut down underground cell service and that just amped up the protest after that. on august 22, police arrested 35 protestors mainly on two charges: failure to obey a peace officer and for illegally blocking a right of way. fines are between $100 and $200 for those offenses and bart said it spent a lot on the protests so far about $300,000 to deal with them a number likely to grow. so now b
