. >> i heard the other day there is google mars.around like they do here and see if someone is standing up on their house. we have photographs. tell us about those. >> the grainy photographs are important. we found out which way this landed. 365 degrees, you don't know which way it landed. east, west, north, or south? some of the latest pictures showing the martian, a little dust in the air. that's not haze, that's not humidity. that's certainly dust in the air. that dust may have been caused a little bit about the landing of the rover. things don't move around very much. it's an elliptical orbit. this could be be 250 million miles away from earth. 155 million miles away right now. it takes 14 minutes for a picture to go from mars back to the earth and takes 14 minutes for us to send a signal for us to do something. >> that's not bad really. >> except you want it to turn, don't want it to hit a rock or fall off a cliff. you want to watch where it goes. >> plan ahead. >> and wait 14 minutes. >> take a left in 14 minutes. i think this

they used some google mars maps to pinpoint where nay landed. entire entry-dissent landing team getting their kudos for that spectacular job. >> you have been just as excited as well as if you're on the team for this. that's great. it's catching. you're excitement is catching. i'm sure the audience loves it. i love it. the curiosity sending back panoramic pictures. it's fascinating to look at. what are the scientists hoping to gain from the views? >> we still haven't seen the fuel resolution panoramic that we thought might come out today. we're going to have to wait for that. when they look at these image, the science team is going, look, i like that rock over there. let's get to that rock over there. let's get to the base of mount sharp. they are seeing these targets of interest out there because what they are hoping for is to find the kinds of rocks that would indicate that water once flowed at the base of the crater. they do believe that water flowed at the base of this crater at one point in time. this is a spot where they believe that life

mars, hinding for signs of life on the planet. -- hunting for signs of life on the planet. >> when the aliens come, we know what is going on. >> let's find them. >> that's right. >> google his address, please. >> that's right. >> showers and thunderstorms out there. they popped up and seems some are weakening here and mostly cloudy in town. at -- watch out. i think the next few hours or so, we'll have a chance of some of these showers or thunderstorms popping up. not here in the city right now, but that does not mean one won't pop up. they just to the west of us. can you see here in northwestern section of montgomery county and this is the strongest storm. i think it's probably, at least for now, reached its peak and that got up and it was fairly strong and now it does appear to be weakening, not quite as much lightning coming out of the storm and that is with an updaft now. it seems to be a little bit detached and higher up into the sky, leading me to believe that this is going to collapse on its pretty soon. most of the showers and thunderstorms don't have a separate updraft and down draft. as it rains, it kind of rains itself out and that is taking care of the updraft on
