that is why i am quitting the gop. joining me now is miles taylor, the former chief of staff at the department of homeland security in the trump administration. he is the executive director of the renew america movement. miles, great to have you. thank you so much for making time for us this evening. let's start with buffalo. what was your reaction when you heard what happened in buffalo? >> ayman, i'll be honest with you, it reminded me of something else that had a pretty profound effect on me on if -- a few years ago. you recalled the mass shooting in el paso, texas. the shooter walked into a walmart. killed or injured dozens of people. in the wake of the attack, when they found the manifesto, he cited an invasion at the southern border as one of the reasons he conducted the attack. that was alarming for two reasons. one, just the naked racism behind the brutality. two, the shooter echoed the same language we received from donald trump in that time period. i had already quit the administration in protest, but it was

a big, red, gop wall. it's not for any lack of trying. ultimately, would you have to do is realize that florida is a microcosm of what is happening on a more national level. we have desantis appointed judges, we have desantis redistricting, we have desantis laws, we have desantis going after disney, which is one of the largest employers in the state of florida. but we try to do is grassroots it, -- from a legal perspective, we have massive challenges that go before desantis appointed judges, and we have problems. >> ric, let me bring you in. you know republicans. are florida republicans really out there, even by modern gop standards? if so, why? is it because people like yourself rile them up over the years? >> you bet. we built a machine in florida politics, and i go back to the dawn of time, 1988, the first george herbert walker bush campaign, and i've been around the block for a long time. i've done a lot of races in my home state, on the fifth generation floridian. what is happening in florida -- there are three big factors. one, the

how much of herschel walker selection by the gop. do you believe it's a response to how the republicans did in 2020 in the senories? a lot of it is the response of getting one wanting to have a new face an outsider right georgia republicans and really republicans throughout the country, but i think particularly in georgia are obsessed with the idea of an outside david perdue who's now a candidate for governor. he ran for us senate in 2014 with the outsider label. it was front and center. it was about everything he talked about was he was the outsider politician and you know, there's no outsider quite like herschel walker he hasn't lived in the state in for years. he lived in texas and just moved back to run for office and he's certainly wasn't involved in conventional politics. he was a big trump sir again, but he wasn't involved in day-to-day politics in georgia. so he's running as an outsider. he's also running with the trump brand right as i said, it might not matter. he might have been in this position even without trump's endors

this all points to a pro gop. the governor's race confirmed it. the candidate -- 44% of the pennsylvania gop chose the mastriano as their next governor. he even said received a subpoena from the general six committee. it is not just election denial republicans on the ballot. trump's big lies spread through the dark corners as the great replacement theory, the racist conspiracy that motivated the buffalo shooter. according to the guardian, these white supremacist websites have become politically significant forces, pushing the gop farther and farther to the right. >> when we as a party and movement, or people like tucker carlsen, throw out these varies, we are just fish in the waters of white replacement theory, or echo some of the fear based things, you could not be surprised when somebody takes that to the level of gone and massacring people, you just can't. >> joining me now is democratic congressman of rhode island, david cicilline, congressman, it is good to see you. i want to start with ginni thomas's emails. you have justice thomas worried t

let's shift to the gop side and the senate.me of the candidates he supports have won, others have not. in pennsylvania we don't know who won. he backed dr. oz, who -- and kathy barnette tried to grab donald trump with both hands and his blessing even if not officially his endorsement. she finished third. tell us where things stand on that race where this moment is too close to call between david mccormick has more establishment backing than dr. oz. >> too close to call. still 2,600 votes that need to be counted. people are waiting to see what direction the gop and pennsylvania is going to go. these are two very different candidates to people outside of the race. but to people inside, republicans inside the gop in pennsylvania, they saw someone who was a little more centrist and establishment with mccormick and reminiscent perhaps in some ways of the republican party pre-trump. and so, if he moves forward, this could signal that not everyone in the gop in pennsylvania is looking for something as trumpy as mastriano and certainly

the gop -- rising star who took on the republican

are the republican philosophies we can all agree on, is there still room for reagan optimism in the gop. it truly is a time for choosing. in that phrase the title of the series comes from the 1964 speech that launched ronald reagan's career and catapulted him to political stardom, the governorship and ultimately the presidency. it's a speech so important around here we just call it the speech. but it's not the title that's on my mind tonight. it's the title of the book. specifically a tale of two cities. if i measured correctly, the distance between the white house and washington, d.c. and the governor's office in the maryland state house in annapolis is less than 35 miles. but they feel like they are worlds apart today. in annapolis the governor can enjoy an approval rating in the 70s. a republican governor in a blue state with an approval rating higher than 70% amazingly that is not a work of fiction. in washington though the sitting president's approval rating is in the low 40s on a good day. the best of times and worst of times. there's all sorts of reasons for the differences but o

i went to the 76 gop convention in kansas city with my dad. governor reagan was challenging president ford, for his republican nomination. my dad was a friend of jerry ford and a chair of his campaign. i admired president ord. i was captivated by the appeal of ronald reagan, who expressed, since, conservative values and a positive hopeful vision for america, that appealed not just the republican voters, but also to independence, and voters in the other party, who would become known as reagan democrats. so family consideration is not what is --. you know, some kids rebel getting into a little bit of trouble or pardoning -- partying at woodstock. i rebelled by campaigning for ronald reagan. from that moment on, i became a lifelong, committed, since conservative from the reagan wing of the republican party. i still am. ronald reagan won two landslide elections and created a movement that endured for a generation. he understood the simple truth, that successful politics is about addition and multiplication, not obstruction and division. it is one

what is your take on the minority community support for example of the gop?n a significant increase in the amount of minorities support. i used to go to conservative at gatherings and i would be the only black face. now there are a lot of black faces there and hispanic faces because they are seeing thehe things that actually work for them. that is really the key systemic racism and the wealth interestingly enough there are black people who do very wellin this countrynt nigerians, they have black skins. but you'll notice and those families is the bachelor degree is the baseline is where is they start. the emphasis on family and family structure. if you look at traditional black american families that emphasize education and family structure you will also see very little in the way of wealth gap. maybe we are looking at the wrong things. a lot of minorities are starting to recognize their opening their eyes, they are not just listening to so-called leaders and slavishly following what they tell them. >> infected they are living it. they saw a big change with op
