it is a question of what policy we will see put into this gop bill.uest: president trump revived the idea of recess appointments for his cabinet. where does that stand? guest: that has been something raised during the election to become the next majority leader of the senate and we saw the candidates agree to it, including somebody like john thune, saying they would do every thing they can to confirm trump's cabinet nominees in a swift manner. we haven't heard much about this idea of recess appointments. there are questions about how this would look practically, logistically, what legal concerns surrounding it could be, but it is something i am interested to see if that is more of a discussion on capitol hill. trump did get his first cabinet nominee confirms. it was a unanimous vote in the senate and senate leaders are teeing up more votes here and we are seeing those nominees dispatched out of committee and making it to the floor soon. pete hegseth to be defense chief. expect to see more of these nominee votes in the coming days. the question of rece

and regardless, the gop has more cruelties up its sleeve.icans, the narrow gop majority house recently adopted a rules package for the 119th congress. it includes a bill already passed in the house that would amend federal law to bar trans athletes from participating in women's sports at schools and institutions that receive federal funds. there's also a bill that would criminalize abortion by prohibiting a, quote, health care practitioner from failing to exercise the proper degree of care. in the case of a child who survives an abortion or attempted abortion. as my next guest puts it, the rules package is full of hateful fear mongering and redundant, redundant provisions that do nothing to help american women and families. joining me now, democratic congresswoman teresa leger-fernandez of new mexico. congresswoman, thank you so much for joining us. i'll start with your response to the trump to trump saying that he will sign at least 50 executive orders tomorrow, one of which we expect to declare a national emergency at the southern border.

the gop's shaky unity and tough fights to come make trump's window even smaller. it does seem like if johnson doesn't get this together, it says as much about trump as johnson. i mean, this is tough for him, potentially. >> there's some truth to that. and but i think the major point there is speed. i mean, there is a lot ready to go on the agenda for donald trump, the republican controlled senate and the republican controlled house. so all of this, if we have all of this delay out of the gate, it is going to push back almost all of the trump agenda. so, absolutely, there's a lot there going on. the one thing, though, that was mentioned, i really want to point out, is almost more important than the johnson vote is, who is in charge of the rules committee. what makes it to the floor? how does it get to the floor? what parts of the legislation are going to be voted on? if johnson gives the rules committee, if he does not control rules, he wins the speakership but doesn't control rules. this entire trump agenda is going to be delayed. >> yeah. fair enough. although we
