gordon is my only brother.urvived by his wife and two sons, stafford is two and max was born three weeks ago. gordon is survived by a mother, sister, in-laws and other family members and friends who miss him very much. words cannot describe what gordon meant to this family. i appear before you as a representative of only one family affected by this accident. unfortunately, there are many more. i stood with those other family members at a recent memorial event, a service no one should ever have to experience. although we never met before this disaster, i want those other family members to know that we grieve for them and are committed to telling our story so we can try and correct the inequities in the law and so no one else will find themselves in that situation in the future. of course, you aware that gordon died aboard the transition deep water horizon oil drilling rig, he was employed by ms swabbing co-a contractor aboard the rig. he worked aboard that rig for the past two years and was excelling in his prof

juneteenth or the 19th of june recognizes june 19, 1865, when in galveston, texas, union general gordon granger announced freedom for all slaves in the southwest. this was the last major vestige of slavery in the united states following the end of the civil war. this event occurree more than 2 1/2 years after the emancipation proclamation was issued by president abraham lincoln. . upon reading the order general number 3 by general granger, the former slaves celebrated jew baatly, establishing america's second independence day celebration and the oldest african-amerrcan holiday observance. since that time, over 145 years ago, the desendants of slaves have observed this anniversary of emancipation as a remembering of one of the most tragic periods in our nation's history. the suffering, degradation, and brutality of slavery cannot be repaired. but it can serve to ensure that no such inhumanity is ever perpetrated again on american soil. and so today juneteenth sell brates african-american freedom while encouraging self-development and respect for all cultures. this celebration of the end
