scott gottlieb, always good to have you. for joining us >> thanks a lot. >> obviously delta is top of mind for everyone. we're wondering what kind of impact this will have. my question is on the breakthrough cases we're hear more anecdotes about it it's starting to show up a bit in the data. do we know anything about the breakthrough cases that is, people who have been vaccinated, getting covid-19 delta, and whether they can transmit it to our kids, to the unvaccinated people. >> we know when you're vaccinated you're far less likely to transmit it. whether or not you develop a mild insh where the virus levels are much higher, whether or not you're more likely to transmit in that setting than the old strain, it's possible, but on the whole, you're less likely to transmit it. right now the cdc is not tracking breakthrough cases in the outpatient case, which i think is unfortunate, and there's very few breakthrough cases being hospitalized even in florida where there's a lot of cases, there are very few hospitalizations on the

gottlieb is right on the mark. it is clear that this virus is obviously spreading among people who are unvaccinated. people who are previously vaccinated have good protection against serious disease, and it can make people who are unvaccinated if they acquire the infection seriously ill. i know they are younger and they were told that people who are younger are less apt to get seriously ill, that is still correct. you have to hold two thoughts in your mind at the same time. although you have less chance it's not zero. if you do get infected even though you are otherwise perfectly healthy you can be put in the hospital seriously ill from this virus. this virus is not going to disappear or just vanish. dr. gottlieb thinks if you are unvaccinated it's only a matter of time before you become infected. that is how contagious this delta variant is. host: what do you think the behavior should be in terms of the people who are vaccinated. should people who are vaccinated still continue to wear masks? or should that be a pe

gottlieb that we have to do better with.iant, if you have been fully immunized, you have nothing to worry. this is a highly transmissible virus. so if you haven't been vaccinated, you should get vaccinated. we need to get more people vaccinated in this country to protect ourselves from the dealt air variant. but there's a lot of people saying i'm not going to get immunized. a couple of things will help. hyper targeted markets will help. go to a local community and understand what the issues are. number two, you need to work with trusted members of the community, such as churches and community based organizations. and number three, it's really important that the fda gives full approval to the vaccine soon. as long as they're under emergency use authorization, a lot of people will still be hesitant to get vaccinated. >> that seems to be the key thing. hopefully that can be done at least at the end of the summer. would you like to see schools, airlines, offices, many private businesses mandating vaccines, is that the key to get
