lets start back on the gound. i was lucky enough to get offered a media ride with the legendary blue angels.. this is my pilot. davie says "tyler davie, lt. number 7 for the team." ok he's really young.. but the blue angels are an old tradition. they formed in 1946 after wwii ended. the idea was to encourage people to join the navy during a time when we were and foster good will from the public. that good will woul d hopefully translate to a larger share of the shrinking defense budget. they started with old hellcats.. now they fly f/a-18 hornets that have been retired but meticulously maintained. davie says "they don't look like it and they don't perform like they are the oldest planes in the fleet." i put on my jump suit and nervously climb on board. i get strapped in.. the crew chief clears us to go.. and we're off. and by off i mean almost straight up! (nats take off) they idea is to plane and pilots can do.. we do some gentle manuevers at first.. but they get more vigorous as the flight continues. we go from
