wider canyons in the world, you just have to think of the world, you just have to think of the grand canyon canyons around the globe reach into the earth and at the same way as denman glacier does. it is going down 3500 metres, at its base. and really, you have to go to ocean trenches on the margins of the continents to find something that is deeper still. if you go to the western pacific, to the mariana trench, there you will find a trend that goes down to just shy of 11 kilometres. but denman is interesting, because it is shovelling all those eyes from the east of antarctica out towards the ocean. what they have found in this new study is that the bed of the glacier actually stops back towards land slightly, and that is a geometry that scientists don't like to see, because it enables warm ocean water to get out the glacier and to eat away at it more easily thanit and to eat away at it more easily than it would otherwise be able to do. this is a glacier, because of its death, because of the amount of ice that it holds, that they are going to have to keep a very close watch on in the coming
