you've accepted this grant in june. the project is a grant from the local baseball non profit fbbr and funned through chevrolet. the project is not as valuable as mr. rivera's car. then the san francisco giants received a similar award from chevrolet. and have chosen to award the grant to the recreation park department to do repairs s on james park ground. they selected it as a ben fishary. some great results and we'll bring that grant back to you in august. at the end of the fiscal year, i want to thank the staff who recently retired. we've had a hurt of retirements and we're going to honor one in particular raymond coats, jeff kollin, john, and park supervisor, devita and carlene rock wood. and ty. cota and veterinarian gail, they're off to enjoy the pleasures of not working. and we wish them all the best and we're thankful to them and their careers. we're please today have one retiry. and thank you for his 26 years of service. he has been instrumental in the successful outside lands festival in golden gate park. ther

imposed by this board on july 11, 2012, there was an agreement reached that the five trees will be granted for removal with the conditions that 10 trees would be planted. because this was a board requirement, dpw doesn't have the done wave that condition. in some cases if a developer is not required to plant a required tree, we look at alternatives like additional landscaping to mitigating the loss of that tree. that is something that is available to us. what we are here is to get guidance from the board to pursue this. frankly i do think there is a dispute about what can be planted. definitely one tree will fill fit on 8th street and i feel we can work with pg & e to allow us to building -- plant an additional tree on 8th street. there was a tree proposed here. pg & e doesn't want the trees over their vault. if the tree shifted at one side over the other, the concern is access. tapp at that time it can be pruned to access the vault. dpw's perspective is we don't want to eliminate some of the trees but also respecting pg & e. i think there is still plenty of room for access to the driveway

to cease all grant purchases by june 30th of 2012. in august of 2012 the department was contacted by the fiduciary agent for this grant, that there was some additional funding available that had not been expended not necessarily in the city, but throughout the region, and asked the department if we would like to be able to expend it or if we could expend it over the next month in order to meet the grant deadlines. so, the department applied for and received an additional allocation of 3 76,000 above the originally approved amount to expend during this period and that is what's before you today. i apologize for the retroactive nature of the resolution, however, given the extremely short time frame and turn around time of approximately one month, it wasn't possible to get full approval before accepting the additional grant funding. since there was no match required by the department and no funding for this funding and no other commitment, the department made the decision to go ahead and accept the funding and process retroactive formal

and, as i mentioned earlier, the grants, the money, the department of education has issued 11 grants to schools. we need more, we will see as budget proposals the president's and the secretary's real commitment to this to ensure that we have some resources for innovative programs that are happening across the country for those local programs that are really changing the way their schools function and their communities see their schools and promoting those and scaling them up. >> very quickly because i know we want to move on, the attorney general launched a defending childhood initiative, i know there's a lot of philanthropy in the room, we want to work in partnership to find those innovative programs. there was a jurisdiction in north dakota that got a grant to implement some of the restoretive justice programs, the superintendent mentioned those. those have shown real potential for doing good things in terms of preventing recidivism in the bullying context. a grant to boston for statewide bullying intervention, so there's a number of different places, portland, maine and elsewhere.
