, but we can show you this beautiful picture that rosemary mentioned earlier of the moon over the bay. the female gray 40ft long. it was discovered in the water near the crown beach on saturday evening. how the whale died is still not known. in general, the most common causes of whale deaths are boat strikes, entanglement, and poor nutrition. but so far, scientists with the california academy of sciences say there are no initial signs that the whale suffered any of those problems. once they are able to study the whale, they hope to get more answers. >> what we'll do once we get the whale to a point where we can conduct an animal autopsy, called a necropsy, we will open it up and look for broken bones and hemorrhaging to see if the animal suffered a blunt force trauma from a vessel strike. >> again, how and why the whale died is not known yet, because the whale is still in the water and not on solid land. scientists haven't been able to do that. necropsy yet. sources told ktvu over the weekend that the plan was to have the army corps of engineers and the coast guard help scientists tow the mammal some
