aid agencies say the situation on great abaco island is desperate, with residents unable to find foodcted to increase with hundreds still missing. earlier i spoke to darren tosh, the executive director at samaritan's purse — a christian humanitarian aid organization that has airlifted an emergency field hospital and a medical team to the bahamas. we have been airlifting supplies into the bahamas, we have been able to deliver at least five rotations of leaf, there is 30 tonnes of shelter supplies that are in country, desam anisation units essential for getting freshwater to people. the situation on the ground requires that we end up getting into shelter and with freshwater. equally we have been working with the ministry of health and the world health organization to be delivering an emergency field hospital, and the field hospital is up and run today. we can report that i can take up to 100 patients a day, with a delivery unit as well. on grand bah haar ma island this field hospital is providing essential care for those rescued who need recovery, so our tea m rescued who need recovery,

tropical storm humberto is expecting to hit great abaco island at some point today. f the islands that saw heart breaking death and destruction from hurricane dorian. senior meteorologist joining me now. allison, what kind of impact are we talking about? >> winds have increased a little bit, up to 50 miles per hour. the former movement, it had been moving to the northwest and now completely stationary. we're hoping this means it will start its quick turn to the north moving it away from freeport, away from florida. it will come in due time. how much of an impact will it make before it turns off to the north and to the east? once it hits warmer water we expect it to intensify into a hurricane. cat 1 and maybe has high as cat 2 as it approaches bermuda. in the short term the biggest impact will be the winds, 50 possibly 60 mile an hour winds. rain is going to be a concern for a lot of islands too here. very heavy rain will be pushed into some of the islands. again, if you're talking, 2 to 4 inches, a lot of these homes don't have roofs on them. even a 50 or 60 mile per

what they are dealing with right now at the great abaco island is lightning from the sky because stormss nowhere near it. this is where the reporters and and the problems in the west bahamas. this is where we are here. the plane is having a very hard time finding a center now because all the convection is to the east. can you see the flow of the moisture into great abaco and also grand bahama. we know there's lightning in the kye because the radar here will see it. the sounding, triangulation of the lightning very close to march harbor right there. that's where people don't even have roofs over their heads right now. there is the low pressure center, going to see probably about 3 to 4" of rain in that march harbor area. that doesn't do any good. you think that might wash something away, they don't want anything. they don't have anything over their head. there's one good thing coming out of this entire story right now is that the water is still cold. the water in the bahamas did not recover from what dorian did to that water for days and days and days. it sloshed it around, mixed it up.

when it hit great abaco island earlier today.ained winds were 185 miles per hour, gusts at 220. that tied the atlantic landfall hurricane record set for the labor day storm in 1935. deputy director of the national hurricane center joins me from highway, ed rappaport. do you expect any surprises, any tweaks? >> no, no surprise expected from the next advisory but certainly it's a terrible night and has been a terrible day in the northwest bahamas. you have seen some of the images there, unofficial reports of potentially large loss of life, and that's what we have feared. unfortunately, the catastrophic conditioned in the abaco, and grand island area are continue to continue. still category 5 conditions into the day tomorrow. and unfortunately a prolonged period of activity of really intense weather and storm surge, up to 20 feet. it's also going to delay any kind of recovery and relief that the area is going to get. >> and most of our global computer models have the path very similar to what you guys have. i know you don't like to

it's currently located over great abaco island and going to head over grand bahama island as we go throughoutt part hasn't changed. they still have it a good safe distance off the florida coastline. earlier it was 30 miles off the coast just by quick eyeballing it, may have inched it maybe a mile or two. in other words, the path for about the first 36 to 72 hours unchanged. not closer to west palm. still in the cone of uncertainty, though. they're still leaving the risk and the potential there. and very close to even a category 4 storm as we go through tuesday night into wednesday morning. near areas here of the south. now let's talk about our friends up in areas of south carolina, georgia, and further to the north, to see what the hurricane center did. here comes the storm. they did not have landfall over north carolina. it's very close here to atlantic beach, the moorhead city area, the southern half of the keys. you know, again, that's the center line and four to five days -- four days from now. we're not going to pay too much attention to that. we're still all in the cone of uncertainty.

actually, where we're currently sitting, 40 miles north of great abaco island, you see most of the heavy rain and thel the reay strong winds to the north and east of this. the absolute worst of the system is staying offshore. the islands ar are tropical stom warnings. the storm won't get close now the coast to need the tropical storm warnings. why is that? this is about to take off to the north, already moving to the northwest at 7 miles an hour and then cut off back out to sea. never really getting close enough to bring the tropical storm warnings in, the tropical storm winds. there will be returned issues across -- ripcurrent issues across the state of florida and into the carolinas throughout the course of the weekend and into this week. there will be some bands of rain also. this is the forecasted track with the storm. i'll put it into motion for you here. it is actually expected to intensify but as it really gets -- as it builds strength, it will run farther away from the united states coast before shooting into the atlantic. by the time we get to wednesday and thursday, maybe jumpi

douglas spotted the lost pet last week as his drone flew over great abaco island surveying the devastationone over some of the hardest hit area, and he was literally right in the middle of a giant it like a nuclear bomb had gone off. >> reporter: the hurricane killed more than 50 people. another 1300 remain missing. >> literally, there was not a tree, a house, a car that had not been overturned, shredded apart. >> reporter: three weeks later, many pets, including this dog douglas nicknamed duke are starving. douglas gave him food, and duke was later flown to nassau island where he is rehabilitating. using his drone, douglas says he has rescued a dozen other dogs and cats. he's rescued pets before after the camp fire, but he says this was different. >> it makes me emotional just thinking about it, because there were dead dogs, cats, there were still dead people underneath all the rubble. so i just made it a vow to myself that i would go out there and keep helping as much as i can. >> reporter: douglas plans to add infrared to his drone and return to the bahamas this weekend to help search f
