and what other people might like to eat at the airport, and i get to go out into this great city and look for new concepts that will perform well for us. my impression of san francisco as a relative newcomer is that it is a city that strives for, foster's innovation, creativity, and excellence. it feels like a place of great hope to me, a place of high ideals, a place of confidence. i believe or i know that we at the airport have very high standards set by our leadership, the city's leadership, but i think also set by the spirit of this city. i drive over the hill, we call it, every night along the coast, and i still cannot believe that i get to live and work here. john and leo had given me a lot of freedom to be more creative, and for that, i'm thankful. my husband and children have given me a lot of freedom to spend time at work and thinking about work and talking about work, and for that, i'm thankful. i could not do it without my dear husband who takes care of our daughter, the most important job in the world to me, and for my children being patient with the time i am away from th

here we are celebrating the first chinese-american mayor in our great city. it is a remarkable thing and a very proud dana. -- thing. i spoke a little bit about this yesterday, but it is important set this reminds everybody this is the birthplace of the united nations. this is a city of remarkable diversity. we do not just tolerated. we celebrate it. that is a spirit of what makes sense and cisco a special place in the hearts and minds of people -- that makes san francisco a special place in the hearts and minds of people. mayor lee, here is my advice. you have a year, figure out what you want to accomplish. you were put in this position by the people to my right, but the people of san francisco are the people counting on you. [applause] do what you think is right, and remember that as important and impressive as this did not -- as this is, there are hundreds of thousands of people who require your attention and leadership. always remember the people outside are the people we also need to represent. remember that just because you disagree with the other side

[applause] >> thahalwelcome to jim gardner. >> having been involved in moderating this for a good few years, we saw examples from the first thing this morning that both -- that mayor's can relate to. and they have sat down beside each other and they have sat down with each other and that was nice to see. what did you do to reenergize oakland as a good place to do business? >> the core of the plan was to revitalize downtown and he has this famous goal and it got to about 6000 if you include the projects and they are waiting for the economy to come up. that was critical to revitalizing downtown. san francisco as the number 1 retail city in the bay area. oakland has made an amazing investment. we have industrial areas. >> how much will your strategy rest

i look forward to making our great city even better.plause] supervisor chiu: our next lottery will be celebrated by our supervisor from district 1, eric mar. supervisor mar: 90. it is my honor to recognize a truly inspiring woman activist, parent, and community leader, leticia alcanzar. letty has been a tremendous activist, giving a lifelong contribution to social and economic and environmental justice. not just in the richmond district, but throughout our country. i have known you for 20 years. i first met her in the early 1990's when we were both part of the emerging environmental justice movement. i was very active in the chinese progressive association, and she and others in the mission district and the south east neighborhood formed people organizing for environmental rights. letty was born in st. luke's hospital, the second child of mexican immigrant parents. she and her sister yolanda grow in the neighborhood of 14th and mission street, and later, the move to the excelsior district. she attended st. charles go in the mission, not

we need the best ideas from around the world to move our great city forward. so welcome to our friends from europe. again, thank you for all of you here in san francisco that care passionately about this and i look forward to working with all of us to move this movement forward. [applause] >> thank you very much, supervisor. our next speaker was an elected member of the brussels parliament representing the green party. she was also minister of social affairs, health, and equal opportunities in the government before starting her political career in 1993, she worked in the european level in environmental and social organizations for 10 years. as a politician, she focuses particularly on the development of economically depressed areas which despite their assets face challenges like poverty, unemployment, and a lack of development. she believes these neighbors are a key to a vibrant and prosperous brussels. please. >> i'm happy to be here and as far as i could take note is the situation for cyclists as well as in oakland as in portland as in san francisco -- excus
