we are the greenest city, according to siemens as well. that is another part of a great effort here today on this conference to see what next we can build in our economy that is part of the grain economy. 208 clan tech and investor firms in our city is a wonderful accomplishment, one that supports our efforts here. we're going to do more on that. we're going to expand on our solar companies that are already here. and that is a great topic while we have the umbrellas out. our solar companies. because when we fill up the reservoir and at hetch hetchy power, we're going to also make sure that we're going to continue on this very wonderful theme we have about attracting some of the best-seller companies around the world to be here. with our own efforts, and china sf, we're going global. we have got five of the largest seller manufacturing companies located in san francisco. that is another accomplishment. they're coming here for a purpose. the one to be part of that culture. so i know that there is a lot of companies that have already established here in san francisco, and i

we care about this great city. we know the likelihood of this city rests upon our young people. and if we do not get them to be not only learning in classrooms -- that is great, but that is a little bit isolated from the real world. the real world is when partners, like the folks here today, we want interns. we want people to work in the summer. we want them in the offices and even in the sewers. i am up for that. you know, to have those opportunities that are real, to find out what careers exist. i'd love to read futurist. it will tell you that 85% of the jobs for students entering kindergarten, 85% of the jobs they will do have not even been invented yet. i hope that the young people this summer will get an opportunity to see what the adult folks are doing, what kind of work. and add to it. do not just go there to learn about what you are going to be doing. learn about how that can become even better. what tweaks need to take place to make that even a better product? i know you may not believe you have the power to do that. but bill gates, jobs, everybody, they did not think th

city. this keeps piling up with rec and a park, the department of environment, of people that want to continue this great effort of the city to build more parks, more planting areas, more urban farms. as we have encouraged -- i know supervisor david chiu and eric mar join me last year in the urban agriculture ordinance to allow less bureaucracy in the creation of community gardens and farms throughout the whole city and utilizing empty space that would go with it and then at neutralizing, offering them a very rich soil to really create good farmland. and then dpw came and started their collaboration with the department of environment, really allowing private property owners who had orchards in their backyards, fruit trees, vegetable gardens to actually, if they were not using and, to be able to donate it to food shelters and other areas where people could have access to fresh fruits and vegetables. we're doing all the right things. and there is a reason why we have someone named robert haley as the zero based manager. we made a commitment a while back, one i personally embraced, and that is why i want to

cleanliness and a bit of vacation but infrastructure and the collaboration needs to represent a great city, a city that knows how to get stuff done. that is all what residents and voters want. they wanted these simple times of getting kingstowne and collaborating and communicating. i know it has become much more difficult with the huge regulations. with financing, it has become more difficult. with the loss that we're faced with and how to manage the project -- with the laws we are faced with and how to manage the project. with the laws imposed upon the port, airport, muni, and other agencies, we needed to permit that goes beyond sitting back and awaiting root for things to happen. there are actively looking for relationships with our general hospital. our general hospital has already starting to talk to me about, ok, when we're finished with this, there is another project that money to pay attention to. they're thinking ahead about the medical needs of our community. that is why it is so wonderful to be out here, because people are not just taking care of immediate emergencies. there also

i will continue to make sure the doors are open to anyone who wants to serve this great city, anyone show their love for it. i will continue doing that. it is because of its international stature, our city of san francisco enjoys being the attraction for the whole bay area. when companies or visitors are deciding where they want to spend their money or make an investment or have a good time, they will think of san francisco in some any positive way is because we have allowed ourselves to evolve as an international city. that is so important. so many cities are trying to protect their coffers and investments, to be the city that they are. i want to continue being the city that people hoped for us today, to put a positive aspect of hope in the city. that means today and it will mean for some time that my administration reflects a strong effort to create and sustain jobs for everyone. if i have learned anything in my visits throughout the city it is that everybody wants to get a job. they want to be here. they want to sustain themselves year. they know how expensive it is. i know how ex

this is a great city. i hope you think about this. another version i heard about was the 49ers stadium. we know what happened to that. let's stay on course. let's make this great city what it >> [reading names] >> i am a community union organizer. i was an iron worker for over 30 years. i am definitely with the labor movement about bringing jobs and opportunity, especially to those who have lacked access and the opportunity to be in a lot of these trades. the opportunity of this particular project is for multi years. not only will the construction trade benefits. i am in great sympathy with that nurses to have issues. one of the things i have always been able to say, if nothing else, the union has had a talk about the issues. i would hate to see buildings not being able to go up. it would be public and community benefits that would be able to benefit from this, especially the low-income housing, which is greatly needed. there are too many things and too many opportunities for us not to be able to recognize that this is a win-win situa

growing a family steeped in tradition of people that love this city, that love every neighborhood, and who have experienced all the great positive dialogue, but have also been concern about negative dialogue, sharing in every aspect of the city has. i know many of you have joined with me some weeks ago when we celebrated the 50 years of tony bennett and his wonderful song. we have much more to celebrate in the coming years. i hope you all join the chamber in making sure that we share this prosperity. having said that, knowing that our economy is improving, i want to make sure you know i will be at the home with the board, making sure we are not tempted to return to spending habits and short-term choices that got us into trouble in the first place. we have two-year budgets, a renewed sense of obligation and responsibility, talking about our infrastructure, things that allow our tech companies to be successful. we have to solve some serious transportation issues in the city, and that is why at risk in and i spend hours saturday morning at a technology hackathon. not trying to create a new application but try to solve some

one of the great things about this city is you have people who really do care, not a year in and year out, but decade after decade after decade. rick is one of those people, so you would do me a great honor if you would give him a big round of applause. [applause] i will tell you a little story -- we were standing in this little museum, which you all have to go in and see. i asked him if it was his idea, and he said, "no, it was your idea. [laughter] really not so. another great event during my tenure was the cable car refurbishment. cable cars are amazing. the last remaining cable system in the world, and the cable itself is very complicated because it is still with -- steel with hemp in the middle, and as you know, it is of the marijuana family and there are not a lot of legal producers. we had to find hemp to redo the cable and also restore those cable cars. we went out and we ask the business community if they could raise $10 million, which was our match, for the federal money of, i think, $42 million. i will never forget, in walks ken of chevron with a million- dollar check. not

kelly is an extraordinary woman with a great contribution to the city and county of san francisco in administrative capacities. we have the pleasure of working with her and the city administrator, ed lee, when the society was engaged in working to have the city adopts a slavery disclosure ordinance, which the board of supervisors did adopt. it is on the book. the ordinance would require certain entities that do business with the city to disclose whether their origins -- where they have their origins historic plea, and whether they are in any way related to slave trade. we worked closely with ms. kelley in that regard. the skills, expertise, and commitment she brought to that challenge was unswerving in terms of its implementation. at the board of supervisors last week, we were there when the announcement -- when she was before committee with regard to her nomination to become the next city administrator. i got up and made a few comments. somebody got up after me. i said to that after him, "i wish i had said what he said." he said we talk about the fact that naomi kelly, hopefully nex

mayor lee's working group can make a great city even greater. other cities are watching san francisco. what we do here will influence them, and that could change the world. there are a lot of questions, too. the sharing economy waits to be shaped by policy. it is in its adolescence. this is a transformative moment. it is waiting to be shaped by policy, but for whose benefit? we believe it should be shaped for the benefit of as many people as possible, and especially for those who need it the most. . we also need new regulations, not simply application of the old. otherwise, the sharing economy will fail to meet its promises. 30 of things that are the biggest threats to our society. i will open a panel -- there are two things i think are the biggest threats to our society. i will give you a high level brief of the sharing economy. there is no textbook definition of the sharing economy. we will then begin the panel discussion which will last for 45 minutes or an hour, however long you want it to last. before i dived in here, raise your hand if you

i love san francisco, it is a great city. this is a civil rights victory but it is also a human rights victory. we have a right, just like everyone else, to be married, divorced, to walk down the middle of oklahoma openly queer in the middle of the day and not be harassed and persecuted for who we are. i believe this is a wonderful day for all of us that are not just lgbtq activists, but human rights activists. we want to be treated in a humane way, it is just that simple. i want to thank all of the activists that fought so hard to make sure that this day happen, maybe we will catch up with spain and other parts of europe. it is such a catholic country and it has been legal there for many years. we will get there. i am confident of that. >> i want to thank the supervisors. we have everybody here. and before we open it up for questions, i know that there are representatives here from senator leno's office, members of the equaly california. thank you for being here. there is another elected official i like to give the opportuni

but as you know, it is been my mantra, my purpose for wanting to be mayor of this great city to try to create jobs for everybody, for every neighborhood in the city, for every classification, for every age group. and we are seeing some of those results today in our great city. with our unemployment rate falling, we are seeing jobs created. obviously in the technology industry. the construction industry and health care, manufacturing, hospitality, and in some many of our local companies. but i know we can do better, because, especially when it comes to our young people who suffer an unemployment rate that is three times more than our general population, we can do better. we can try to erase those barriers to employment that makes it so difficult for our youth, especially when you no statistics that we have been sharing with a lot of you. age 16 to 19, 35% unemployment rate. when you get to age 24 group, between 20 and 24, that is about almost 18% unemployment rate. they have got it tougher, while we are now enjoying an unemployment rate that is down, going down below 8%. that is why ear
