lahood for the great gift to our great city. the new money that is going to be used here is going to create 1,000 new jobs before the end of the year with many more jobs to come after that. that is something to applaud. thank you again secretary lahood for that. this is one point 7 miles very similar to the length of the golden gate bridge when 75 years ago that was going to be built and little did we know what that bridge would bring to the economy of san francisco and marin and as we look ahead for 75 years it's interesting what this does for this region. you know the bay area has become the blue angels of science. we do lots of stunts, and we are very successful at doing those stunts and we do them at high speeds, and between this project and the project for cal train to electifiy it over the next seven years $3 billion is going to be spent regionally on transit here, and we can say thank you to the secretary of transportation and to the regional transit authorities who have create thursday opportunity for the transportation.

it's been great to work with rhonda and sitting down with sf city. it's gray on a personal level, it's great to work with rhonda's shop, i remember when i was a youth organizer and i also want to recognize the good work that you are doing. we are giving the feedback on what we would like to see better. i have also visited all the other places. i want to see a deeper penetration into the neighborhoods that are harder to get access to. you know i visited our tech companies and this is not a dig at them but you can see when you walk in, the lack of diversity. i see very few african americans, i see very few latinos when you walk into a tech company. i know it's not the world that they live in so their out reaching to their friends to jobs and it's not a criticism. i just think that if we are talking about how we can improve our city an i get e-mails a lot of times from tech companies in how do we make the neighborhoods safer, how do ideal with homelessness issues. we have to be very real about what it is to really create economic opportunities in our com

because the city is doing so well which is great, that's also a positive thing when the economy recovers. unfortunately one of the down sides of that our city becomes more expensive and that rent goes up. ~ and i think all of us have heard it from our tenants in our district. and i want to be really careful in saying that i think when people have attacked tic as an option, that we're not attacking the people who want to own homes in the city. we're just attacking the solution to home -- that solution to homeownership, that we would prefer that people who want to become homeowners, they didn't have to go to the rent controlled housing stock to become homeowners. we want to find another pathway. one of that of course is more housing production, but also housing production that is affordable to residents in the city. and i am guilty of that, as many of our colleagues are of supporting, you know, luxury developments in the city that doesn't address that concern. but i think that we have to figure out really a more realistic solution in terms of what homeownership means that's affordable to o

[ applause ] >> good morning. this is amazing. i really didn't expect all of this myself. i would just like to say, well, i was like one of the first ones to move in here a few months back and born and raised here in san francisco. i really didn't know that i would be able to have a place of my own. especially with the background i have. i have been a drug addict and alcoholic and going in and out of jail through the years. i have been homeless since 1999. and in 2010 i was diagnosed with 2 types of illnesses, one that can kill quicker than the other and then in 2011 i got out of jail and i have been trying to live my life
