ted greenberg tells us about a new campaign stressing safety on long beach island. >> reporter: it is a chilling demonstration that comes with a deadly message. one that's extremely personal to paul. >> seven years of held. >> reporter: this man's brother was in a coma for seven years after being hit by a car. he died in 1994. >> having that experience puts you in a different way of policing. you become more proactive. >> reporter: using a crash dummy representing a 10-year-old, authorities showed the difference in a driver's ability to stop at 25 miles an hour compared to 35. it's part of a two-month summer pedestrian safety program on long beach island, which like other shore areas, sees a population explosion this time of year. >> safety doesn't take a vacation in the summer. >> reporter: the campaign called street smart ng urges drivers and those on foot to obey laws and watch out for each other. new jersey pedestrian fatality rate is nearly double the national rate. >> our realtors will have handouts. the hotels have handouts. hopefully, we will have a lot less close calls. >> re

ted greenberg is live at atlanta care regional medical center. you have been tracking down information on the victims? >> as well as how this happened. tell us more, ted. >> reporter: everybody is from philadelphia, three of the victims in serious condition right now at atlanta care regional medical center. two others, including the child, are critical at cooper in camden. investigators are trying to determine why the truck crashed but say laws were being broken even before the accident happened. the pickup truck landed on its wheems after hitting a guardrail and flipping over but not before six people, including a 4-year-old boy, were thrown out on to the atlantic city expressway. a woman we spoke with who asked not to be named says show came upon the scene in the wilkes-barre lane within westbound lanes in hamilton township. >> a child was laying on the right-hand side of the road being helped by a driver from the car in front of me. there was a woman laying in the road on the left and other people laying in the middle of the highway. >> report

ted greenberg spoke with investigators about this operation. live outside the prosecutor's office, ted, this investigation is not over yet. >> reporter: it is not. this investigation is still ongoing. this probe started two months ago here in cape may county. it ended up spreading beyond its borders. it also made history. we sent sky force 10 to vineland after learning cops converged on this property and another nearby. they were searched today in a take down of a major heroin distribution ring operating in two counties. >> this is the largest narcotics investigation in cape may history. >> reporter: investigators carried out search warrants in 12 different locations today. in one authorities say, they found 7,700 bags of heroin. in addition, they say they seized the equivalent of 182,000 bags of the drug, worth more than $3.5 million on the street. >> with the heroin overdose dejz that we have been experiencing throughout the southern region, i believe this is a big tool that we have to show that we're fighting this epidemic. >> reporter: poli
