nbc10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg traveled to new york today and shows us how they're hoping to turn the tide. >> reporter: do a.c. in nyc. this is the spot at the new york times travel show where some of atlantic city's biggest cheerleaders are trying to sell the seaside resort to 25,000 potential visitors as a destination that's still alive. >> atlantic city's had so much negative publicity with the casino closing in the past year it's done so much damage to our image, more than superstorm sandy. >> reporter: they set up neighboring the lehigh valley and delaware s among 500 exhibitors at the three-day show. the 30 by 30 foot frint of its display is the largest of all u.s. destinations. here it's all about pushing what the resort has to offer and numerous improvement projects on the horizon. >> the loss of a casino is big, but guess what it's not -- the sky's not falling. our nine gaming attractions are growing. >> reporter: how much money is being spent to be here? >> very inexpensive. cheaper than an ad. for $15,000 we're here for the press conference for this two

ted greenberg reported accidents in new jersey because of the heavy rain. doesn't matter if temperatures are above freezing, but now we have the heavy rain moving in. low visibility wet roadways people can't see very well they're driving too fast. closer to the shore, even southern delaware, this is mostly light rain at the moment. this is the critical factor in all of this the temperatures. if we could make that full screen so we can see those numbers a little better. 31 in chester springs, if you can see that number. 33 in horsham. these are barely either at or below freezing. this is a big factor in what happens to the rain when it falls. philadelphia now, good news 34 degrees. not too long ago, we were at 32. 35 northwest philly. 36 kenneth square. and now through the lehigh valley, some of these numbers have gone up a degree but they are still either at or below freezing. these numbers are very critical in what is happening when the rain falls. south jersey and delaware these numbers are in the 40s. we won't worry about freezing conditions where we see

if i can do it so can they. >> reporter: ted greenberg, "nbc10 news." >>> home foreclosures are on the rise in new jersey for the third year in a row, according to a new report from our partners at philadelphia business journal. a tracking company in california found foreclosures up by 70% in the garden state last year. most of those are in south jersey. that goes against the national trend, which actually dropped 18%. across the river in pennsylvania foreclosure filings went down by nearly 6%. >>> we've got another cold blast that's coming in tonight on the leading edge of that we have snow showers across parts of the area. that cold blast tonight, you're really going to feel when you get up in the morning and get outside. by sunday, it's going to be wet. not white, wet. and you can see pretty well the snow showers have fallen apart. 39 degrees. still a 16-mile-an-hour wind. feels like it's about 30. the temperature now down to 29 in allentown. 17 in mt. pocono. that colder air starting to come in on the northwest winds. we're still above freezing across much of the rest of the area.

ted greenberg spoke to the family and why they believe he was actually a man in need of help. >> there's someone trying to get into our house. >> oh, my god. observation, my god. oh my god. >> reporter: prosecutors say 21-year-old james weaver jr. triggered that frantic call to 911 when he tried to force his way into this lower township home. >> they're breaking in the door. >> reporter: when terry ewing made that call around 3:15 sunday morning, she told a 911 operator she was on the second floor as her 56-year-old husband, richard, in his wheelchair confronted the alleged intruder downstairs. >> they're screaming. he has a gun. my husband -- and he's told them that he has it but they're trying to get in. >> reporter: prosecutors say weaver, who was unarmed, smashed a side glass door. ewing shot him once in the head killing him. no charges have been filed. >> it appears the homeowner warned the decedent about coming in. the phone call reveals a lot of facts and i won't draw the conclusion. can you draw your own conclusion. >> reporter: a different 911 call made nearly an hour earlier, p

nbc 10 jersey shore bureau reporter ted greenberg arrived within the past half hour. >> how long are they expecting these repairs to take? >> well there's no telling right now. that's what the fire chief told me a short time ago, jim and renee. we are at the intersection of rega avenue and briar cliff drive. this is on the border of egg harbor township and hamilton township. this situation has been going on for about three hours now. i can tell you, the odor of natural gas is extremely strong here as well. here's the reason why. around 1:00 this afternoon a contractor accidentally drilled into a 6 inch gas distribution line on rega avenue. within the last 15 minutes south jersey gas company crews were able to stop the flow of gas from that damaged pipe. now, officials tell me there have been no service outages to customers in this area. and they don't anticipate any. that's certainly good news for all the people who live in several housing complexes in this area. there are many developments in the area where we are. and they certainly will be happy to learn from the gas company that

i'm ted greenberg. it is now 7:00 a.m. on this sunday, january 25th. let's get right to the first alert forecast with meteorologist brittney shipp. and brittney this morning is looking good. today is looking good and then after that things start to change. >> yeah things start to go downhill as we head into the next 24 to 36 hours. but if you take a live look outside right now, mostly cloudy start. kind of overcast on this sunday but we're going to stay dry. however, we have a first alert that will go into effect sunday at 10:00 p.m. and last all the way until tuesday. snow is expected to move in after 10:00 or 11:00 tonight. that is going to lead to a messy monday morning commute. we've extended the first alert until tuesday, with the possibility of a major snowstorm late monday heading into tuesday. we could see this clipper restrengthen and turn into a nor'easter. so that's something i am going to continue to track. we've got to stick with us because everything keeps changing, but our radar shot right now shows quiet conditions. here's the clipper s

let's bring back herb greenberg. we already talked about some ceos who haven't been doing is great or have an uphill battle ahead of them. what do you think of microsoft and intel in particular herb? >> well, first on intel, the interesting part on the story is it was going up against such easy comps. this company's growth was just so horrible. if you go back five six quarters and the company has come back. but interestingly enough its revenue last quarter $14.5 billion is just a little above where it was in october of 2011. so you can see it's sort of still flat and the interesting part there would be whether it can really accelerate. i think the real story continues to be microsoft. i think nadella is new energy into the company that is a way that will be interesting. i'm having to now look at microsoft as a user in a way i haven't done before. they may actually have me in there because as i go through the product lines and product categories, i'm finding that they actually have things i may need for my company. ma

i am stephanie greenberg, a resident of telegraph hill. i am here to support the family who are the owners. i hope that we trust that the planning department researches ceqa issues and makes recommendations that we can trust. the planning department and commission thought it was okay under ceqa and nothing has changed to alter that. the first exemption was granted two years ago. i live by the property and i have level of experience with the situation and i find the appeal of this determination by the adjacent property owners at 310 green street to be vexing because that property has been left seemingly abandoned -- i guess it's not the case but it's unfinished for a number of years and that has a negative impact on the community and i wish we were here talking about that today. i walk by these properties everyday and frankly i think we have to look at the fact that the kanters are a local family. they're thinking to thoughtfully help this distressed property. they have followed the rules and did the outreach and want to move forward prepar
