policies, the green tech of north america and forbes recognized that san francisco has the most greenin the united states. that's jobs. that's one of the most important things we are doing for the whole country. [applause] and we are creating and sustaining jobs as well as supporting new industries in our city. our energy watch program creates or sustains 180 jobs a year. san francisco has now achieved 80% landfill diversion rate setting the national recycling and compost records as the high of any city in north america. [applause] and by the way as a former public works director you ought ton how proud i am. we have the best compost in the united states and in fact it's sold to all of the wineries in napa that make and produce the best wines in the world. our partners employs over a thousand green collar employees and solar sf resulted in hiring from employees from disadvantaged communities in the work force program. i want to acknowledge and thank green build towards considering toward the success and the projects and the living wall in the tenderloin community garden and the potrer

green jobs. and yet we can't even define what a green job is. let's start with green jobs. the bureau of labor statistics has five definitions of the 3.1 million green jobs that it's counted. namely, energy from renewable sources, energy efficiency, energy pollution reduction and removal, natural resource conservation and environmental compliance, education and training and public awareness. when i was testifying on capitol hill before the house energy and commerce committee, they had a paper cup in front of me. often they just have a bottle of water, but this time they had a bottle of water and a paper cup. and the paper cup said architect of the capitol on one side and power to save energy on the other side. so since this cup fit the deaf fission of education -- definition of education, training and public awareness, the workers who made it had green jobs. if the cup had just said architect of the capitol or if it had just been plain white cup, then the people who made it would not have had gre

green. >> my own direct experience, generally, the buying public will not pay more if it is green. maybe that is something people don't want to hear. it is the honest truth. that is my own direct experience. i think it is absolutely -- what will happen with the current green movement in building, is that it will become standard. it is becoming the standard. ultimately, it will be frowned upon when a house does not have these features, i think. i think that is how it will migrate into society, in that way. it is a good thing. it is becoming an awareness of all of these things, your appliances, your window rating, things like that. it is something that happens over time. people like to talk about it. i have sold properties where they are solar-ready, which means they have all of the equipment installed to bring the solar down, the solar energy from the roof, down into the sub-area, to then transmitted to the electrical outlets and things, but the panel did not get installed yet because maybe the person did not want to spend the extra $20,000 or $30,000. it is a promise it is coming.

. >> item ten a presentation and decide on the port of san francisco blue green way project >>> good answering commissioners david with planning and development and i am to take this opportunity to give the commission and the public an update on a variety of blue green way project and this is a project to complete the water trail from san francisco mission creek on the north to the county line on the south it's a project that has been led by the port but includes many region state and regional agencies currently we have seven project in the act of planning and design and two projects that have been recently completed and so this map illustrate the line of blue green way planning and design guidelines and this is a community planning guidelines to define the los angeles and use and provide community and continue youth between the water front and we initiate tattediated this in 2010 and released a address in 2011 and we are aiming to complete this in january of next rather and one of the reasons that we have not been able to complete this yet is to get a number of the items prioritized

how many of you have ever heard of the green button, a green button? most of the panelists and audience members. it's a good thing we're here. it is a initiative launched by the white house but industry led. you should be able to get your own energy data in a machine readable format you can then give to companies, organizations like the ones being celebrated here today to provide real value to you such as saving money, improving energy efficiency, and protecting the environment. so, the green button here we are in san francisco, i can say with some public comfort that pg&e is a signatory to the green button, download my data. and basically you go to the utility website. you can download your own green button data which by itself is, well, i'm an energy guy, an energy geek. i consider with confidence. it is not interesting, necessarily, but when you take your green button data and you give it to some companies, they have amazing things they can do with that green button to, again, save you money. something as simple as if you look at your green button w
