(applause) >> all right. so, i'm up here to present the graffiti-watch volunteer award and the graffiti watch program is a program that started about four years ago. over 300 people enrolled in the program, and about 180 of very, very active people,. very, very active means those people go take time out of their busy day to go remove graffiti and make san francisco be graffiti-free. and in that 180 there are very, very few that get up early in the morning, early -- i mean, 3:00, 4 o'clock to go and make sure the neighborhood is clean before everybody wakes up to see a nice clean street or nice clean wall. and the awardee tonight and the winner is larry win ham, if he would come up and receive his award. a big thank you to him. greener side. compared to many other asian cities, seoul is a pioneer when it comes to parks, public transport, and climate protection. this small river in the city centre is an impressive symbol of that. long covered with concrete, it has now been restored to its natural state. it's a peaceful oasis in the midst of urban canyons. the new futuristic town hall also serves as a role model. the huge administrative building requires about 20% less energy for lighting, air conditioning, and heat. its head designer sang-hee lee is relying on geothermal and solar energy. such technologies are to be used throughout the city in the future, because by 2020 seoul wants to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by a quarter. >> building design plays a central role. not only is the new town hall more environmentally friendly -- many buildings are now being renovated so that they'll consume less energy. better insulation has also been installed in the building i've lived in for thirty years. i'm especially proud of the new roof garden, which i designed myself. >> a great deal of money has been spent planting vegeta

neighbors come together and did greener, how they help us to create bike paths and build affordable housing. when you create those relationship with the different communities in our cityç towards increasing their capacity towards serving themselves in a time of need, you have aç workg format. when you can invite fema to have an early conversation, when you can have all of your 15 different utility companies working together ahead of time to talk about how we can create what we call the lifeline council made up of the entities that deal with power, communications, transportation, response. get them on an agenda now. lifelines council, we have already seen the results of bringing together the companies already doing this work. they work in their isolated ways. çwe formed the council to prove them a vision that we need them to create relationships among them and with our city now, early,ç so that as we take on the smaller disasters like power outages, smaller shakes, or transportation disasters, or the oil spill in our day, we use of those opportunities to have the utilities working together to see where are the gaps. in doing so, you create relationships you did not
