and the greenroom is at the southwest corner of the east room. so i stood by the door as the legion of dignitaries came through, of course bobby kennedy who was talking to sergeant shriver. and the current chancellor came. and sir alek douglas who was prime minister of great britain. i've lost track of who i saw. bobby kennedy and sergeant shriver were discussing what type of memorial to create. and to my naÏve ears, i was 26 years old at the time. it seemed not, i didn't think it was quite the right thing to be talking about a memorial, i mean what kind of monument to build, but i, snatches of conversations, i was close enough to hear all the sorts of things that went on there. and afterward, after the dignitaries left, the white house was left kind of empty, but for me and a few other people. and i got to wandering around. i went, and there's a cross hall that goes from the east room over to the state dining room. and on the tables in the cross hall were the newspapers from the library of congress. they were laid out and open to the illustratio
