greg cergol there with more. >> reporter: also as you said, allegations of police abuse, and today, kyle howell and christopher lowe held a joint press conference to discuss cases that are going in decidedly different directions. lobe of course is the man who claims he was beaten by former suffolk police chief after lobe broke into burke's car. he is now facing federal charges and being held in jail without bail. lobe said today, he's relieved and vindicated by the arrest, then there's kyle howell whose beating was captured on surveillance video. beating at the hands of one nassau cop, but on friday, a county judge acquitted that officer, saying he feared for his life during the traffic stop in which the beating took place. both howell and lobe said today that police misconduct must be stopped through more vigorous prosecution. >> people may think i deserved it, i didn't. and if you think it can't only happen to someone else's son, you're wrong. >> people make mistakes, and i have made more than my share. but i didn't do anything to deserve to have my bones in my face broken in multiple places, to have surgeri

hit-and-run. 38-year-old officer christopher kohrs, the hot cop of the castro, accused of leaving the scene after hitting two pedestrians in north beach. today chief greg suhr said that kohrs did take drug and alcohol tests but not until several hours after the incident. >> the collision occurred sometime after 2 a.m. he came in around lunch hour. so, um, at least alcohol for sure dissipates in the system over time. they have formulas to back that out but we'll do whatever is available to us to figure out what the officer's condition was at the time of the collision. >> we're also hearing for the first time today from district attorney george gascon. he expressed his disappointment with kohrs. >> certainly in this case is it's outrageous that we had a police officer that got involved in a traffic collision with significant injuries and he left and we're very, very concerned and we're upset that this happened. >> the d.a. says kohrs' not going through a field sobriety test could be an issue if the case goes to trial. >>> chicago's top cop is fired following a week of protests over the police shooting death of a black teenager. >> now is the time for fre

greg, let us return our focus to the u.s. jobs report. we going to take everybody to washington right now at the department of labor. we have christopherpartment could deputy secretary, thank you very much for spending time with us. ask you questions like opposed to rick. what are the biggest priorities for the labor department now that the growth this of study and the unemployment rate is down to 5%. ? christopher: thank you for having me. we should look at these numbers. these suggest strong widespread growth. 211,000 jobs created this month. we are on track between this year and last year to have the best two years since 1998 and 1999. the unemployment rate is 5%, the lowest since 2008. we have had very impressive growth and construction and some really positive growth in professional business services and health care. you're right. not all sectors have performed as well as they should. manufacturing was flat this month. we always say every month that wages are really the unfinished business of this recovery. we are averaging 2% growth in wages right now. as a long-term trend, but is not enough to help most middle-class americans. e
