greg palkot is live in tel aviv, israel, greg.very good reporting on that, iran is involved in another front. we know they are backing hamas and active with the fight in gaza. we know they are backing hezbollah in the north and we pretty much figured out that they have been backing these houthi rebels as they shoot rpgs, rockets, you name it, at shipping and disrupting shipping in the red sea. more direct connection, the spy vessel sitting in the red sea, feeding realtime information about the ships going back and forth to the houthi rebels causing more disruptions in the region. 13-0 at the u.n. security council, for a humanitarian pause. some called it watered down, some called it compromise language but got through without a u.s. veto. just russia also abstaining, due to what it called soft language. saying the conditions should be created for the cessations of hostilities, not an immediate ceasefire. also saying steps should be taken to allow in more humanitarian aid, not the exclusion of israel involved in the aid screening.

greg palkot is live outside the gaza strip. are they ready to do this? are looking at that for sure. that's a possibility, dana. there is a whole lot of other stuff going around in this region. we are at a staging area for the israeli defense force. it is just outside of a town in southern israel. gaza is six miles away. you hear the repeated pounding of artillery into gaza. what we look at behind us. these are armored personnel carriers transporting 12 troops at a time bringing forces in and out of gaza from this location. they're pretty good at deflecting small arms fire and shrapnel shells. the attention is on the place called khan younis where it is believed the hamas leadership is hiding out. some of the heaviest irrelevant strikes are firing there now. the ground battle moves into the area. dozens of tanks and other armor. that area is densely populated. israel says it has killed 15,000 in gaza since the war began. they include in the number 5,000 hamas fighters. everybody getting into the act. israeli naval ships pounding gaza amid some talk of fl

but first, let's get right to greg palkot, live on the ground in sderot, israel. greg, you and your team have seen the explosions all day. what's the latest from there? >> sandra, john, we are just hearing it right now. more blasts. we can confirm firsthand that the war between israel and hamas is very much on the gaza strip, only about a mile away from where we are and throughout this day and night we witness israeli airstrikes and as we are hearing now, israeli artillery hits. we have been seeing hamas rockets come from the gaza strip over our location. luckily knocked down by israeli defenses and hearing a lot of gunfire on the ground, possible signs of clashes between the two sides. hardest hit as you noted, the southern part of gaza. all told, israel today said it hit 200 hamas targets and the military as the terror leadership in its sights. triggering the new fighting after the hostages were freed, they say they did not have an adequate list of captives to be released. israel said they reneged on the deal. and some rockets reached as far as tel aviv. and most

greg palkot. i want to go to jonathan. yesterday, you were moved by everything he said. he had a chance to meet with the president at the white house. talking about the fate of his son who was taken hostage by hamas. very good to have you. sorry under these circumstances. anything since your meeting with the president? any news at all on your son? >> no. unfortunately not. really the truth is that since he was taken hostage october 7th, we've heard nothing, certainly not from him, but even about him. if you recall a couple weeks back, there was a wave of hostage releases. the u.s. administration helped broker. of the 100 or so that were released, 30 of them came from my kibbutz, my cooperative farm. we had 80 hoes tstages taken ocr 7. 30 were women and children. they had lots to say or some things to say about what they had experienced in the tunnels or in the above ground prisons where they were held. we learned in the community quite a bit about the condition of our loved ones. among them there's a sign of life for segge
