so my colleagues, especially greg walton, david jager claude steele, many others have developed a suite interventions, what we call the interventions. i don't quite like that term, a suite of practices that helps students especially from marginalized backgrounds, to feel more like they belong, especially during these treacherous transitions into college or into graduate for into high school. i mean, we all have what greg and i have called belonging, uncertainty at certain points in our life but the volume on that uncertainty can be turned way up if one is coming in from a member of a historically underrepresented haunted or excluded group. so we've done is to develop over the years as a series of practices one being for instance just presenting incoming students with stories of more senior students who explain how feeling like you belong in college is normal and likely to be short lived. we give people like testimonials from people who are three or four years ahead of them, which serves to just convey that, you know, if you're not sure if you belong. give it a little time. hang in there
