gretchen.concerned about a nor'easter coming in and the storm would make recovery from sandy more difficult. let me tell you first about red hook, brooklyn. 7 mile midtown, manhattan but it might as well be a another planet. red hook is in the dark. this is pioneer street and if you live here you have to be a pioneer . other side of red hook. there are 30 buildings part of the public housing projects and all of them, almost out of them. 30 out of 33 don't have electricity. not only are they in the dark, they don't have heat and don't have water because no electricity to run the pumps and it is making their lives difficult. throughout the region there are a million and half people in the tri-state area without electricity. let me tell you about staten island in particular. they are to a great extent in the dark. streets are littered with debris. everywhere you go you can see wrecked cars and boated lifted inland by the storm it will take days and not weeks for the power to be restored in staten

joining me is xylem's ceo gretchen mcclain.em is one of the big companies focusing on dewatering infrastructure in areas hit by sandy. gretchen, great to have you with us. >> thank you for having me. >> there is a lot of pumping going on in lower manhattan. i see it every single day. i don't know where the water goes from the holes it is coming out of, but it's going out of the places it doesn't belong. in how many pumps have you got downtown, and how long do you expect this effort to last? >> we actually spent a lot of time prepositioning pumps in place well before the storm got here. but we have over 200 pumps already out deployed, another 100 on their way, working with customers, trying to move the water as quick as we can so people can get back up and rung. >> what is your fastest pumps? i read something like 16,500 gallons a minute. >> this that is correct. >> wow. >> think of that. take a backyard pool. you could probably fill or unfill it in about two minutes. so it's a significant amount of water, moving it very quickly

let's start with you, gretchen. what do you make of this? it's like the married women gap, versus the single women gap. with these election results. >> i have a couple thoughts. i think married women think about the future of their children. more so when they go to the polls, potentially, and if you are in the traditional marriage, maybe you want the same things that you grew up with. you want those same cultural ideals for your kids. you're thinking about the economy in that way as well. you are thinking about the future of your kids and the debt. i also think that married women think less about abortion, and so even if you are pro-choice i would tend to vote more on the economy because when you are married you are just -- abortion is not really or contraception for that matter is not a huge part of your life. >> laura: married tend to be more settled, you are thinking about the kids and how the country is going to be when they grow up. how they sexualize culture and all of that maybe it makes you think more traditionally. janine, what's yo
