[dial tone]. >> griff, are you with us? we do not have griff. but if you are joining us, this is a scene in watertown, massachusetts, where a suspect has led police on a chase. they're trying to find him now. they are securing the neighborhood. we were told that these suspects in custody and other one was on the run and this is the fire power, that was heard earlier on the police scanners, things such as ieds and dynamite and hand grenades and long rifles. it sounds like they were arm to the teeth. police are desperately trying to find the second suspect. we are hearing reports from our local fox affiliate, wfxt. they reported that the fbi is saying that the suspect could be or is relate to the marathon bombing. that is something that we have to confirm on our own. but again, if you are joining us, they are looking for a second suspect. people in the area reported hearing loud explosions, we are told that that was... police, you know, blowing up the devices that they did find to disarm

>> reporter: i heard from griff jenkins, he had spotted federal officers on the scene up here.wouldn't necessarily be out of order with a police officer being shot or a big commotion, related to this. you would have the federal officers on the scene. you would have a big police response. what is inconsistent was the scanner related to the armament. the fact that the guys are arm to the teeth, according to the scanner -- hand grenades, dynamites and improvised explosive devices and all the attention and the skittishness about the cell phones, for fear that cell phones could trigger some of the improvised explosive devices. >> what else can you tell us right now, about the police presence and what is going on? you are saying that they had choppers in the air, police on the ground, what is the situation looking light right now? >> reporter: it is a three-block area that is cordoned off right now. the town is watertown. the neighborhood is called coolidge. that's where it is happening right now. i see a terrific police presence. they are keeping us pretty far back. so i can't neces

griff jenkins has followed this as well, following the steps of the police and the swat teams throughout the night. griff, you are in watertown, massachusetts. where are you? i understand there is a helicopter overhead. >> that's correct. we have a helicopter overhead. we have come full circle. when i originally gave the high chase pursuit, which ended up in the killing the suspect number one in the terrific fire fight that we got into, we are in the same location in watertown where i got out of my car. this police helicopter, we know it's a police helicopter because it's a no fly zone, it's hovering over the area where the first fire fight took place. when i got out of my car, the helicopter is right in that location. since we have been watching this, i have seen nine city buses full of police officers go in there. authorities tell me they're bringing in relief and also intensifying the search. so to recap, we are now full circle, back to the same location where i originally got into the fire fight that ended up in the death of suspect number one. we have not heard gun fire. we have not

our own griff jenkins is live on the ground in watertown where the manhunt continues and where he's beenncredible events unfolding for the past 13 hours. griff? >> reporter: megyn, that's a very good point. the situation here, if we listen to that press conference, is they've cleared 60 to 70%. while the streets might look a bit calmer here, if we go back to where i first came, the threat assessment is at a very high, high level. everybody should be listening to that press conference. this is a very fluid and dangerous situation. that means they could find him in the next 30 to 40% they're still looking. we've seen in the last half hour armored humvees with armored soldiers or law enforcement officials with assault rifles. we've seen the blackhawks. we've learned the blackhawks are part of the massachusetts natural guard. they're used for transport. we've seen them in the last 15 or 20 minutes passing over. this is very active, and if this guy has been up as i have when i first started to pursue him at 11:00 last night, he's tired. he may be getting cornered in the final 30%. this is ver

we are going to go back now to griff jenkins who is on scene in watertown. what can you tell us about what is happening at this time? >> it remains an active and dangerous crime scene. residents still told here in watertown of a five or six or more block radius to stay in their homes. there is a suspect out there, and he is dak russ. he is dangerous and he is armed. we do not know -- the most important disclaimer is we do not know these suspects -- there is one we captured being held at bay and presumably in custody and one on the loose. that's why there is an active and dangerous crime scene. we don't know in anyway if they are tied to the marathon bombing on monday. we know at 10:40 i have a p.m. the mit system wide alert for faculty and students said active shooter. we know an mit officer was shot. we know shad leahy has now -- sadly that he has died. we heard there was a robbery at a gas station between where i am five miles from mit and here in watertown. i gave pursuit behind some police cars and saw the active scene at the gas station. there was a car

i remember griff jenkins at that point, few hours before there is helicopter keeps hovering over this one area. it ended up going back to that. you know, she said yesterday, i think, bill, at that point we all sort of felt like, maybe he got away, or maybe he is lying somewhere and we're not going to find him for quite some time. bill: got that feeling at 6:00 on friday night. that image is so, so clear. really incredible technology. the victim of an alleged carjacking by the way is now talking and what he is saying might give us a glimpse of the motive here. now he was driving a mercedes suv, the owner of that suv. says he was forced to drive to watertown at gunpoint. claims the brothers told him quote, they were the boston marathon bombers and would not kill him because he was not american. well the victim escaped apparently. earlier we are told he was let go. but apparently he escaped at a nearby gas station and called 911. that is where police got hot on their trail at that point, martha. martha: investigators are looking into possible radicalization of these suspects trying to fi
