griffin: we have thousands of assets that we have to keep track of. we have to always know their condition and continuously plan for their refurbishment at the right time. one of the things we're required to do under the consent decree is inspect our system. we're trying to find where there's leaks. so we blow smoke into the sewer pipe. man: we're locating places where water from the surface to the ground is running into the sewer pipe and overloading the system. hunter: we have 1,600 miles of sewer. we are evaluating every linear foot of that system. is the pipe leaking; are you having a lot of infiltration or inflow? thornell: every time it rains, water will come down, go into the pipe, enter the sewer system. it's very easy to repair this defect and get all that water out of the system. griffin: with our closed-circuit tv inspection, we record cracks, holes, pipes that are partially collapsed. hunter: we literally will have a digital video of every foot of our sewer that in the future, we can go back and do a comparison. what's changed? is it degra

jennifer griffin joins us live from the pentagon. how are they planning to mark 9/11, jennifer? >> reporter: there will be a ceremony on 9/11, there will be an after that replaying that the president will attend but in the morning at the time of impact at 9:37 in the morning, the secretary of defense, the chairman of the joint chiefs, and the survivors and their families will be here at the pentagon. we have been speaking with some of the survivors will just how hard it was that day, how hard it was to get out of the building. lieutenant colonel robert gunivald was conducting a meeting at 9:00 a.m. on corridor four when the plane hit, he helped his army coworkers crawl out. >> we were like mice in a maze. so we're in a room that has walls and windows, but -- we're in a cubical form, so as we negotiate our way out of a conference room, we get into this cubical area but it's just black and you can't see anything, hoping that we don't run into a wall or go into a cubical and reach a dead-end. >> reporter: the day that we interviewed col
