jodi hernandez joins us below on grizzly peak road along the fire lines. you were mentioning more than 200 firefighters involved including inmates, which is not uncomm uncommon. what are you seeing now. >> reporter: that's right. i can tell you about 30 minutes ago, one of those inmate firefighters fell from this very hillside. we saw them hike up the hillside and apparently they came upon a hornet's nest. they started to get rid of the scene. i'm told he fell about 50 feet from that hillside. now these inmate haves been working hard all day long. with me i got a bar tachief. >> a couple hours a firefighter stumbled across a bee's nest and stung them and in attempt to get away from the bees lost his footing and fell about 50 feet to the pavement below. >> reporter: how is he doing? are his injuries? >> he's stable now. we had a very quick response from the fire department. and paramedics on scene helping with the fire. life support began immediately for facial and head injuries and stabilized in the local hospital for further evaluation. >> a dangerous rug

yesterday on grizzly boulevard above the and affecting the oakland and berkeley hills area. just like yesterday, we're seeing more than 100 fire personnel brought in from around the bay area to work on this fire. the fire is no longer growing passed that 20 acre mark. in fact, they were able to stop the fire from growing roughly around 9:00 p.m. last night. some where it stands right now, we're at about 50% containment, which means still extinguishing hot spots result of that initial burn. of course we have to keep an eye on weather factors with winds expected in the area which could lead to some of the pop-up fires i just mentioned. now there were no mandatory evacuations, but it's still a concern for folks, especially in the oakland hills area. when you consider that grizzly peak within that area devastated by the oakland hills fire in 1991, fire that reached nearly 1500 acres destroying more than 3,000 homes and killing 25 people. it's clearly a fire not lost on crews out here working today. >> there was an extreme concern, i think the community as a whole is kind of on e

struck the men charged with arson for allegedly starting the grizzly peak fire earlier this month is scheduled to appear in court this morning. alfredo bautista is charged with a series of crimes including arson. investigators say he told them he used a cigarette lighter to start the grizzly peak fire on august 2. the fire burned 20 acres, injured a firefighter and took several days to get under control. the suspect was going to the fire after he was arrested in connection with a road rage incident on the same day.>>> a scenic section of yosemite national park is covered by heavy smoke the south fork fire started sunday, the community in mariposa county. the wall fire grew from 900 acres to more than 1600 acres in a matter of hours. you can see the smoke yelling from the fire. the photographs show some of the fire. it's difficult to put out because it's burning in steep, rocky terrain. smoke is visible on parts of highway 41 and 140. >> 4:12 am. police are continuing to search for those responsible for a car to car shooting early yesterday morning on interstate 880 in the east bay. n

grizzly peak is completely shut down. you can see some of the smoke rising behind me in the berkeley hills. they are asking the public to avoid this area. itd roared into a five alarm blaze that ripped through the tall grasses and brush and trees up here in the hills sending an ominous plume of smoke visible in all directions. this fire was within half a mile of territory burned in the fire storm. due to the fire's proximity to these high tension fire lanes the campus considered shutting down all power as a precaution. cal fire attacked by air dropping water and retardant. more than 150 fire personnel are battling this blaze. no structures were ever threatened but hundreds of grazing goats trapped in the path of fire were safely herded out. residents over the hill were warned to shelter in place if they are sensitive to smoke. firefighters made good progress along the berkeley side but hot spots are presenting challenges along grizzly peak this dangerous, steep terrain. >> that was leslie brinkley reporting in the hills.
