it has a lot of hills, there's a lot of dense groves. once you get towards the center of the park you really lose your orientation. you are very much in a remote area. there are a lot of trees that shield your view from the urban setting. you would simply see different groves that gives you a sense of freedom, of being outdoors, not being burdened by the worries of city life. john mclaren had said that golden gate park was too far away. he proposed that we have a park in the south end of the city. the campaign slogan was, people need this open space. one of the things that had to open is there were a lot of people who did a homestead here, about 25 different families. their property had to be bought up. so it took from 1928 to 1957 to buy up all the parcels of land that ended up in this 317 acres. the park, as a general rule, is heavily used in the mornings and the evenings. one of the favorite places is up by the upper reservoir because dogs get to go swim. it's extremely popular. many fights in the city, as you know, about dogs in park

it started at about noon yesterday in the garage of a three-story complex near oak grove avenue. the fire marshall tells us that run-off from the rain saturated hills came rushing down during yesterday's storms. now that overwhelmed storm drains and the water flowed into the garage of the building. >> i'm just devastated there. is like the second time this has happened. and you know, i come home from work and find this. i lost my car in 2002. >> it took crews more than six hours to pump out the water. while the cars in the garage were not severely damaged, residents are not happy. they say the storm drains aren't enough and something needs to be done to help the run-off. >>> people commuting by strain will have to find a different route today. there will be no commuter express trains running because of a mud slide. now it's on the union pacific tracks in the canyon area east of fremont. mud, water and debris are blocking the tracks. it's not known when the mess will be cleared, but trains are expected to be running again on monday. >>> 4:35 is the time. again, i know in parts of

. >>> discharges from the reservoir closed sycamore grove park for the 6th consecutive day. they say the parts of the creek that run through the park are now six feet deep compared to the usual six inches. the reservoir is releasing 600 cubic feet compared to the four to six cubic feet per second. >>> water regulators are trying to prevent more flooding, but it is a delicate balance and a huge challenge. the department of water resources is releasing reservoirs to prevent over flows, especially ahead of the snow melt. officials say water must be released, otherwise serious damage can occur. >> there is no decision making. the reservoir is out of control. the reservoir may actually fail. so that is an enormous risk. at no time do we want a reservoir to fail. we don't want them over the top either. there is no control at that point. >> last week water officials increased the allocation to 70% of the requested amount. that's higher than last year. but some say it shows the state's water storage system is not efficient enough to adequately serve all of california's water needs.
