the name of the grove in sask, this was an agricultural area. a guy named arthur fremont gilmore had a dairy farm out here and around the turn of the 20th century he was digging a water well and he struck oil so presently, the derricks went up in the cow pastures which is kind of a phenomenon you can still see in the area today. and he started an oil company which he called the gilmore all company which was successful but the area remained agricultural. nothing happened here until after my time, the 30s. even the farmers market didn't start until the depression. it was essentially 18 local farmers who paid the gilmore's son earl gilmore, they paid him $.50 a day to self produce out of the back of their truck. and that was the story of the farmers market. and gilmore made a little money in 1934, he said i'm going to build myself a stadium, he called it the gilmore stadium and for a time he held car races, midget cars were these powerful racing cars thatwere popular in the 30s . and he thought this would help promote his oil company and he was rig
